In this episode of The Drill, filmed on January 17th, Paul sits down for a conversation with UBC Free Speech Club Executive Director Angelo Isidorou. His group has brought numerous speakers to Vancouver over the last few years to speak on campus, often to sold-out crowds. Among the more controversial speakers they've featured are noted author and clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson, and American conservative commentator Ben Shapiro. Recently the UBC Free Speech Club announced that it was hosting an event featuring journalist Andy Ngo of Portland, Oregon. Mr. Ngo, who focuses much of his reporting on Antifa, was recently the victim of violence from Antifa itself. Not surprisingly, Mr. Ngo was set to speak about Antifa, and violence. In a surprise decision, UBC suddenly canceled the event because, "Mr. Ngo has been the target of violence in the past" and "the risk to persons and property was too high." Along with the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms, the UBC Free Speech Club is now proceeding with legal action against UBC for this - a court case which will undoubtely be of historic significance in Canada, possibly precendent setting, and possibly answering the oft-lingering question of "how free is speech in Canada?"
