He also talks about his life in Moscow as a foreigner, and shares his thoughts about nationalism. During the Iron Curtain era in in the 1980s, Massimo did his graduate thesis on Russian poetry. Back then, he could not find any recent literature for his work in his native Italy, so he decided to travel to Moscow. The aspiring Italian scholar liked the city and the people so much that he decided to permanently move to Russia. Since then, Massimo has worked as a teacher and studies the history of WWII, working to recover memories of the Soviet partisans who took part in the Italian resistance and what happened to them.
