Did you know that Albert Einstein thought it was impossible to build atomic bombs? Samuel Tolver Preston invented the working principles of an atomic explosion in 1875, as did Gustave Le Bon in 1905. But in 1939, Einstein still had to be persuaded that such a device could potentially be made. Einstein then signed a letter written by Leo Szilard and Eugene Wigner urging President Roosevelt to instigate the program to develop the A-Bomb, which then became the Manhattan Project. Oppenheimer did not want Einstein to be involved in the effort. CJB Books:
