I believe that a lot of youtubers are not telling you the whole truth about "learning to code." They make it seem like it's this easy, magic process that you can do in just a few weeks. But the truth is, it's not that easy. It's actually pretty challenging and requires a lot of dedication and effort.
Hey everyone! Today, we're getting real about learning to code. You might've seen those videos where people land amazing jobs super quickly or showcase their fancy developer life. But let's be honest, it's not always that glamorous. It took me 3.5 years to really get into this field, and it might be different for you, but one thing's for sure: it's not a cakewalk.

I'll share how I set my own expectations.
- My journey from earning $13.75/hr to making a pretty good salary.
- Why starting your own projects is a game-changer.
- A look into my own GitHub experiences (and yep, there were ups and downs).
- Thoughts on tutorials and how many you really need.

Everyone wants to know how to become a web developer, but ain't nobody wants to do the work.
Learning to program is hard, especially as a self-taught software developer.
So you are probably wondering, "How many hours a day should you code"?
The answer is as much as possible, but that is probably not realistic. So in this programming for beginners video, I will give you the minimum time required to learn to code if you want to be in the top 20% of all top earners.

If you are self taught web developer, or just starting out on how to learn to code. Watch the whole video.
Not only will I show you a project example, but I will also introduce some basic javascript concepts that every beginner should know.

The biggest mistake beginner programmers make when learning to code is that they get stuck in "Tutorial Purgatory" this is when you keep taking a course, after course, and you never feel like you are making any progress.
As a self taught web developer, it can be hard to know how to become a web developer. We think that the way is just to take as many courses as we can.
But that is focusing on the wrong thing. In the end, the only thing that will show your experience is a good portfolio. So right from the start, you have to prioritize building projects for your portfolio versus seeing how many courses you can take.
Hiring managers only care about what you have built and deployed rather than how many courses you took.
So don not make the same mistake I did. Start with a project and learn what you need to get it done.
