IAIS 513 Rock Island Heritage ES44AC- please read description.
I was able to ride along side Iowa Interstate's ES44AC #513 in Rock Island colors. Sunday, March 13th 2011, I followed alongside for about 5 or 6 miles. The speed was 40. My camera man had to hold the camera inside the car because sticking the camera out the window caused too much wind-roar. So sorry for the car's Window frame. At about 1:50 into the video the Horn and bell sounds awesome!!
This was a rare occasion for 513 because it was in Peoria, IL, for a coal run to Ceder Rapids, IA. 513 usually runs the Council Bluffs-Blue Island route. So it was nice to see the Rock Island colors on the old Peoria Rocket! My trip started in Bureau Junction, Illinois. and ends in Annawan, IL. I'm slowed by having to stop at a stop sign just before the crossing- so I missed the train at the crossing.
This day seemed to be a popular one for the 513 as I was constantly negotiating around the "paparazzi" of the rail-fan world. These folks were standing on the tracks and on IAIS's property, blocking the intersections, passing in no passing zones and speeding. When I photograph trains (or anything for that matter) I like to be secluded, out of the way, and in a natural setting. I was able to get good shots though and despite the poor lighting conditions from the mostly cloudy sky I think it came out pretty well!

On a morning in January the Iowa Interstate #513 in the Heritage colors of Rock Island ran solo as the only unit in the train. It was running west from Chicago (Blue Island) to the town of Silvis near Rock Island, Illinois. My buddy who is an engineer for IAIS and who was getting ready for his day shift called me out as the 513 arrived in Bureau Junction, Illinois. These are the shots I got with my new camera. Enjoy!

Here is another Protosound 2 upgrade I performed. This time to a Weaver U25B. I completed upgrades to two U25Bs by Weaver both Burlington Route cab #s 100 and 103. Like all my upgrades I perform I like to have options when it comes to lighting. In this case, I have drilled out the holes on the nose for the MARs lights. I then installed the head lights where they normally go, over the cab. Since this is a "Burlington" item CB&Q like putting the MARS lights where the headlights are and putting headlights on the nose. But CB&Q U-boats were a little different. Instead of the MARS on top of cab, they put them on the nose and I followed my conversion accordingly. The cab interior is lighted and can be turned on or off as well as the Marker lights. Because of the sound file I choose (mainly for the horn sound) I didn't have MARS option, so i just used the ditch light operation as my MARS. The sound file is a U25B from MTH website. With two powered U25Bs I now can make a great lash-up!

**Remember Railfans.. ALWAYS ask for Permission First...it's their property!!! ** My buddy who is an engineer for Iowa Interstate told me (as he usually does) that the Rock Island IAIS 513 would be in Bureau Junction for a coal run. It was parked on the siding. He was there and I asked him if I could get close to take photos and he said sure, but I had to stay OFF the tracks near the edge and OFF the locomotive, he told me not to climb on it. So I followed his instructions and was able to get some great video while respecting IAIS property!. I had to use a lot of camera zoom though! :) and it seems like i'm really close to it but I'm about 6-8 feet away at the closest and still on zoom lens, so sorry for the shakiness.
