Finishing the Bridge | Fall Break Projects with my Daughter, Part 1
Our schools are out for a couple of weeks for fall break. Since my daughter will be home during that time, we decided to take advantage of it and get a few things done that we've been putting off. Our first project will be to finish the horseback riding bridge repairs that we started back in the spring of this year. We originally ran out of lumber and didn't have enough to complete the task. Its now time to get that job completed. We finished tearing off the old boards that had deteriorated badly. Then we went to the lumber store to get some new boards. Then it was just a matterof cutting them to size and screwing them in place. 1st project completed. On to the next.

I have been looking for a good way to clean my stainless steel grill and haven't been having much luck. I bought some cleaner that wouldn't touch the crud on my grill. I found an inexpensive way to clean the stainless using baking soda paste. It requires a good deal of baking soda and elbow grease but the results were very good.

I had some old weathered fence pickets that I thought would make a great Home Built Workshop Sign. Using some Scrap MDF for letters, a few dowels to hold it together, and some spray paint, I was able to create a pretty cool sign. The back boards of the sign are glued and screwed together. Then I cut the letters out of MDF on the scroll saw. I then sanded them down and painted them with spray paint. Once they were dry I used dowels to hold them to the background.
The banjo music is played by me.

I made this sign from White Oak and some awesome flamed Purpleheart. It is a gift for a family member.

Although Salt Cellars have been around for centuries, I just recently learned of them and thought making one would be fun. I made mine from some sweet air dried cherry. The results were great and it will be a useful addition to the kitchen.

A shooting board is a handy jig to have in your shop. It allows you to square up the edges of a board in preparation for glue up or joinery. I'm building my shooting board to help me joint the parts for the top and back of my acoustic guitar project. Even if you don't make instruments, you'll find many other uses around your shop for this jig. I highly recommend you build yourself one.
