Those who know #dakotaslim know that I've been writing and recording music under the moniker since I was around 15 years of age. My digital footprint is long and strange. I like to think of a discography like a journey through #magick and purpose (a la Letters To A Young Poet?). However, I've recently deleted most of these albums due to a sourness I've found with the heaviness of this footprint. This is my aim to share pertinent pieces that really delve into my growth. To say I was in a dark place during the recording of this would be a vast understatement. I was in the throes of substance abuse, penniless and purposeless, living on an ex-girlfriend's couch trying to navigate the hardships that still lay ahead. I only had a broken organ, a broken acoustic guitar, and my voice. All rhythm is "beatboxing" and "chanting." I chose to make a plea, through music and to myself. To addiction and to the magicks I was then fiddling with. The song is based around a vocal chant; in the early days of my #audiomancy I would find transcendental states through sound meditation built around chants. Sure, very rudimentary, but they unlocked a lot of subconscious rifts that I would cry out with melody. This is the first time I ever recorded one of these chants and pleaded, through music, to my find my way. It took me a long time. Still is. As I would eventually find my darkest desert days to come soon after. I've since conquered that quest. Yet, as you know, quests only change, never end. The album of which this is taken from is still available via bandcamp as I'm not being exploited by my own copyright and uploads to systems like Tik Tok or wherever else I care not to be associated with. The album is "GOD GONNA GET ME RIGHT, BUT THE DEVIL GONNA MAKE ME FAMOUS..." an ode to my cynical roots, and a percussive jest I still hold dear even though I am forever grateful for these experiences.
