Frans Lanting was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on July 13, 1951. He is a Dutch photographer, writer, and public speaker. After going to Erasmus University in Rotterdam to study economics, he went to the U.S. Lanting runs a studio, gallery, and stock photography service from his home in Santa Cruz, California. Christine Eckstrom, who is his wife, is a writer, editor, and producer. She works with him on books about nature photos.
Lanting works on photography projects in different parts of the world, like the Amazon area, Africa, and the Antarctic. As a photographer-in-residence for National Geographic, his work is often shown in the magazine. His photos have also been shown in the magazines Outdoor Photographer, Audubon, and Life. In 2005, the Field Museum of Natural History held a show called "Jungles," which focused on the plants and animals of the rainforest.
The "Life: A Journey Through Time" display by Lanting was shown at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music in Santa Cruz, California, in 2006.
