This is a manually constructed virtual sound environment using 3D spatial audio techniques. When sound has been recorded as standard stereo audio, it loses all the information your brain uses to tell you where the sound is coming from. Spatial audio simulation allows us to regain a lot of this information. In this ambience, I have attempted to process, mix and position audio all around you using spatial audio technology to create a more immersive storm experience.
Believable 3D audio is achieved using HRTF filtering. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Head-related_transfer_function HRTF is a technology used to emulate spatial audio by attempting to mimic the acoustics of human hearing. It has been most widely adopted to allow games to portray accurate positional audio. It is now being used to enrich movie and music experiences via standards like Dolby Atmos.

This is a manually constructed virtual sound environment.
Hundreds of high quality audio samples have been positioned around you projecting a vivid storm atmosphere.
The audio will vary in intensity and focus over time, with different peaks and relaxed moments.
Using modern spatialisation techniques (e.g. binaural panning) we can give sounds a position allowing you to perceive where the sound is coming from in three dimensions surrounding you.
'8D Audio' is just a new term / buzzword to describe a simulated binaural effect, this is actually produced using HRTF filtering.

All audio was recorded with a Zoom H4n Pro.
Specific sounds that occur during various weather conditions have been captured as standard stereo audio. These high quality recordings are then processed, mixed and positioned around you to project a realistic stormy atmosphere.
The goal is to create a more immersive audio experience than typical stereo recordings.
