The secret area has Piranha Plants and pits of Munchers. Grab the 2nd Star Coin and turn back to go down the pipe back to the main area. Pass by more Piranha Plants and you’ll spot the 3rd Star Coin under a bridge over music note blocks. Pass by some Jumping Piranha Plants and you’ll reach the checkpoint. There is a ? Block before the checkpoint containing a P Switch, so hit the P Switch to reveal some ? Blocks that you can ascend with to enter a pipe. A cave with Spike Tops has the 4th Star Coin. Return to the main area and you’ll see Spike Tops crawling on the pipes. Some Jumping Piranha Plants may release fireballs, and if you see a ? Block floating high, hit an invisible below it to hit the ? Block that reveals a silver P Switch. Hit the silver P Switch and the Munchers will turn into coins. Go down the pipe and Swoopers will come from the ceiling. After navigating a set of stone squares, you’ll find the 5th Star Coin. Ecruteak City’s gym has a puzzle with a dark floor and elderly trainers. Navigate the floor and see if you take a clean path. If you step into a trap, you’ll be forced back to the entrance of the gym. Navigate through the dark floor and you’ll take on the gym leader. Morty uses Ghost type Pokémon. Normal type moves have no effect on Ghost types unless any of your Pokémon know Foresight. 3 of the opponents will use Mean Look to prevent switching out. One Haunter can use Mimic to copy off one of your moves you use on it. Gengar will be the hard part as it will combo with Hypnosis and Dream Eater. After winning, you’ll receive the Fog Badge and a TM30 (Shadow Ball). Shadow Ball has a 20% chance of lowering the target’s Special Defense stat.

In this level, the water tide rises and fall. A big fish will follow you and don’t let it gulp you in or else you’re finished. While you’re crossing, collect some coins and invert the garbage blocks into coins with the P Switch. Once you go far, go down the pipe and you’ll find the goal.

After you reach the boss room during your Area 10 adventure in the Black Tower, you’ll battle Benga, said to be the grandson of Alder. Latios will use Icy Wind to slow down opponents and Draco Meteor for massive damage while the White Herb it holds gives it a break from a lowered stat for once. Garchomp will use Stone Edge for critical hits and Outrage for powerful strikes in 2-3 turns. Volcarona will use Quiver Dance to speed up and making contact with it can cause burns due to its Flame Body ability. After winning, Benga will leave the tower and you can go to Floccesy Town to receive a shiny Gible.

After gathering all 8 Kanto badges, speak with Professor Oak at his lab in Pallet Town and you’ll be able to access a place called Mt. Silver. Once at Mt. Silver, navigate the cave by using Rock Climb. After you reach the summit, you’ll have a grand showdown against Red. Pikachu holding a Light Ball will use Volt Tackle to deal massive damage at the cost of its own HP and Quick Attack to strike first. Lapras will use Body Slam for a 30% chance of paralyzing the target and Brine to deal double damage if the target has less than half its HP left. Snorlax will use Crunch for a 20% chance of lowering the target’s Defense stat and Blizzard for a 10% chance of freezing the target. Venusaur will use Sleep Powder to put the target to sleep and Giga Drain to restore its HP by half the damage the target took. Charizard will use Air Slash for a 30% chance of making the target flinch and Flare Blitz to deal big damage at the cost of its own HP. Blastoise will use Flash Cannon and Focus Blast for a 10% chance of lowering the target’s Special Defense stat. Think of a whole variety of moves you can use for this battle.

The gym of Celadon City has a maze with small trees that require Cut to remove. After navigating the maze, you’ll take on the gym leader. Erika uses Grass type Pokémon. Jumpluff will use Leech Seed to slowly drain the HP of the target every turn and U-turn to switch out after causing damage. Tangela will use Sleep Powder to put the target to sleep and Ancientpower for a 10% chance of raising all of its stats. Victreebel will use Sunny Day to change the weather for 5 turns and Synthesis to restore its HP. Bellossom will use Solar Beam to deal big damage, which will not need to wait a turn when sunlight is in effect. After the battle, you’ll receive the Rainbow Badge and a TM19 (Giga Drain). Giga Drain restores the user’s HP by half the amount of damage the target took.

During your post-game quest, meet Cheren at Route 5 then he will go to Victory Road. Meet him at the cave that is the exit to the Pokémon League so you can battle him. You can battle him once per day. For this round, he adds Gigalith and Haxorus. Gigalith holds Leftovers so it slightly regains HP every turn and will use Stealth Rock to injure those who switch out. Haxorus holds a Dragon Gem, making its Outrage even more powerful for one use until becoming confused after 2-3 turns. Lance is the Dragon type Pokémon master. His entire team of 5 know a move called Hyper Beam. Hyper Beam causes massive damage but it forces the user to recharge the next turn. Gyarados knows Hydro Pump, said to be the strongest of all Water type moves. The first Dragonair will paralyze targets by using Thunder Wave. The 2nd Dragonair will use Wrap to immobilize targets for 2-5 turns, use Bubblebeam to lower the target’s Speed stat, and Ice Beam to freeze targets. Aerodactyl will use Fly to avoid being attacked the first turn then strike the next turn. Dragonite knows all 3 power element moves; Thunder, Blizzard, and Fire Blast. Gyarados can easily be taken down by Thunderbolt and all others by Ice Beam.
