Australian-born country and pop singer Diana Trask performing Waltzing Matilda live in the Big Top, Eastbourne for a Seaside Special, on the 18th June, 1977. From 1968 to 1981 Diana was a country music singer in the US and in Australia and, in my opinion, this is as outstanding a version of the popular bush ballad you will ever likely hear.

This film is available elsewhere on YouTube but in much poorer quality. This is a copy ripped from the unofficial DVD that circulates on the usual, often dodgy rare film sites. I took the chance that I wouldn’t receive the poor vhs rip that has been circulating for years. I was more than just pleasantly surprised in the quality of this version. I will be keeping this one unlisted soon after publishing.
Based on the book by #AngelaCarter this British television film made by Granada Television and while the adaptation might stray from Carter's literary work, there is no denying that director David Wheatley offers us a visually fascinating screen adaption. The film stars Caroline Milmoe as Melanie.
Melanie, along with her younger brother Jonathan (played by Gareth Bushill) and her sister Victoria (played by Georgina Hulme) are sent to London to live with their toy maker uncle Philip (Played by Tom Bell) There, she meets his mute wife Margaret (played by Patricia Kerrigan) who is mistreated by and terrified of her husband and only converses through notes. She also meets Margaret's younger brothers Francie (played by Lorcan Cranitch) who is a fiddler, and the rakish Finn (played by Kilian McKenna) Melanie soon learns that her uncle secretly has the power to make his toys come to life, but he also maintains dictatorial control over his family and intends to exercise the same control over the new arrival.
The Magic Toyshop was made soon after the renown British author Carter had collaborated with Neil Jordan on the cult horror/fantasy film "The Company of Wolves".

New Edition, the BBC song and dance team performing Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes famous song in the neon lit caves of Kents Cavern, Torquay, on the 20th August, 1977. The added cave drip sound effect by the BBC only adds a charming kitsch value to this 'underground' performance ;)
This BBC dance troupe included Geoff Richer, Ali Minto, Dee Smith, Steve Payne, Leslie Meadows, Alison Bashem and Lyn Jolly.
