THE SECRET TO--STAYING PURE IN A DIRTY WORLD
All Scripture is Vital
If we were to continue to think of the Bible like going to grad school, we could see it as containing all the courses needed to graduate. Graduation from God’s grad school on Knowing Him would mean what 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV) says. We need to start with a verse that we all know so well. But look together at the emphasis God gives to us. Please stand with me and from the screen follow along with the words from 2 Timothy 3:16-17:
• All Scripture is given by inspiration of God,
• [All Scripture given] is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
• [All Scripture was given] that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Today we are opening to the final and most important of all the courses needed for graduation, it is the last book of the sixty-six of God's Word.
If the Bible is like a good graduate school, all of the courses would follow a curriculum with a scope and sequence that reflected careful planning and determinations of progression. That is exactly what we find. The last Book of the Bible, containing the last course God gave for us to know Him, maybe perhaps the most important of all. Why would such a difficult book of the Bible be most important? Because God sent it last, as the closing wrap-up to everything He ever said, that’s why.
We Need to See Each Piece as a Part of the Whole
The Bible was sent from God to us. But the Bible that we hold in our hands this morning is for many of us, much like a puzzle box that has 31,103 pieces. That is how many verses there are in the Bible, and that’s how many different little bits of the “big picture” are spread across the sixty-six books of the Bible.
But God chose to end the course of His Bible with a summary, a wrap-up of everything in all the other 65 parts of the book. One of the biggest tools to getting a grasp on the Bible is to see that:
• God summarizes His plan in the book of Revelation.
• God ties together in the book of Revelation, everything He starts in all the other parts of the Bible.
• God explains in the book of Revelation, how all of the other parts of the Bible fit together.
It would be fair to say that Revelation contains the key to fitting all of the other pieces of the puzzle together, much like we turn to front of the puzzle box, and look at the complete picture. Then with the entire scope of how everything fits, we can grab any individual piece and see a section it belongs to. We can also sort pieces into groupings and know that even if they are not completely pieced together, we know for sure what they are a part of in the big picture.
That metaphor of Revelation being the big picture on the front of the box is the key to meshing all those confusing 31,103 individual little verse pieces, that we read each time we open to any part of God's Word.
Grab & Hold the Big Picture
There is One Author, and One Plan presented in the Scriptures; and the Author Himself sends to us the key to fit it all together.
He sent the cover for the box, the last course of study, the summary of all that He has said, written so that we could understand what His plans have been since Creation, what they are at this very moment, and what they will be when we enter eternity to dwell with Him forever.
That is what a study through Revelation does: it ties together the whole Book, it makes every piece fit, and it shows us what God wants from us RIGHT NOW! That is why there is no book we could ever study that could more deeply impact our ability to Know God, that this book we are entering back into today. So here we go.

As we open to 2 Peter 3:14-17 this morning, we are coming to Peter’s fourth element in how to build an uncluttered, focused life that survives the fires of Revelation 6-19’s Return of the King.
Peter most clearly explains the Day, of the Lord’s Second Coming as King, and we need to frame our understanding of Rev. 6-19 through the other Scriptures God has already given to us.
Avoiding the Pitfalls
Peter who is writing at the end of his life, lays out for the early church these very practical keys to a life that pleases God; and avoids the pitfalls that are so easily entangling and distracting believers from their calling in Christ.
Here again, are his five lessons that revolve around warnings about materialism:
• Materialism Blurs our Purpose in Life as Disciples: Live Redemptively (v.1-9)
• Materialism Clouds our Minds with the Idolatry of Coveting: Keep Alert (v. 10-11)
• Materialism Clutters Our Lives with Discontent: Build Fireproof (v. 12-13)
• Materialism Blinds Our Eyes to Christ with Earthly Treasures: Look Up (v. 14-17)
• Materialism Corrodes Our Wills by Serving Two Masters: Obey Jesus v.18
Our challenge today is to:
Beware of Spiritual Blindness
As we stand, listen to Peter’s heart reflected in these words to Christ's Church, breathed out through Peter by the Spirit of God.
2 Peter 3:14-17 (NKJV) Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; 15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures. 17 You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked;

HOW DO YOU KEEP YOUR FAMILY FROM DROWNING?
Noah was the only dad on earth who saved his family from drowning in the great flood. He was unique. We are all unique. God created Adam and Eve in such a way that it would be impossible to ever have two descendants exactly alike. When God breathed a soul into Adam He made him one of a kind.
Every human born in Adam's descent has shared this uniqueness. But among Adam's generations, God introduces us this morning to a man we can truly say was one in a billion. His name was Noah and his world was on the brink of destruction, eaten by the cancer of sin to the point of being hopelessly, completely, and irreversibly evil.
In our text, this morning Noah shines like a blazing light against an ink-black backdrop. In fact, if there was such a thing as a spiritual weather report of Noah's world it would have been a world map totally blackened by disaster, destruction, and storm with one point of light, and that was Noah. No one else was even looking up, every thought, every intent, and every deed were completely evil.
Noah's day is one of the clearest illustrations of what the reformers describe as total depravity. Left to ourselves, we always go the way of sin and rebellion, turning our self-righteous backs on God.
This is the 3rd stop in our series on the World that Perished in the Genesis Flood. This series investigates the six fundamental truths about the World that Perished in the Genesis Flood. What are those truths?
1. First, we saw that the World that Perished in the Genesis Flood Series had NO TIME FOR GOD. And that is what we studied last time.
2. Then we saw that World that Perished in the Genesis Flood had NO REGARD FOR THEIR AMAZING MAKER. We will see the planet Earth flourishing with life. We will see this globe teeming with plant, animal, and human population explosions. And all the time Evil was INTENSIFYING. Simply stated, a life with no time for God soon loses all respect, regard, and acknowledgment of their Creator.
3. This morning we find NO MAN LIKE NOAH ON THE WHOLE PLANET. This biographical study of the life of Noah will be an amazing time for analyzing what it was that made this hero of the faith tick. Why he saved his family and how he served the Lord.
When everyone else was drowning in the World that Perished in the Genesis Flood, God tells us about one man and his family who didn't. Why don’t we turn there and hear what God has to say about Noah? Genesis 6:9-22.

This morning we are going to do something very hard for us as people living on Earth – we are going to try to think about our Eternal Life instead of merely our Temporal Life. Let me explain. Temporal Life is everyday life. A life that has aches and pains, deadlines and pressures, hopes and fears, ups and downs. It is like getting up, going to school or work, and waiting for special things like dinners, dates, vacations, events. It is a life that is framed by our body, our car, our job, and our world we have experienced. In other words, it is LIFE as we all know it.
Now, when we were saved, and the Lord regenerated us by the new birth, we were born a second time. Our first birth put us in the Temporal Life; our second birth puts us in the Eternal Life. Both run parallel for 30, 40, 50, 60, or even 80 plus years. In fact, most of us barely experience the Eternal part of Life. We know it is there, we hope in it for the future but we don’t exactly know what to do with Eternal Life today as we are so completely overwhelmed by our Temporal or physical world.
What is the key to Vitality in our Eternal Life? Listen to God’s Word – “Lay Hold on Eternal Life…” That is the next and final section of our study on Growing Godly Families – One Prayer at a Time. We need to be deeply engaged in earnest prayer that our children and grandchildren get and maintain Vitality in the Eternal Life.
Signs of a Life dominated by the temporal are explained by Jesus in the Gospels. He spends many hours pointing out the symptoms:

Paul next shows us that mature, normal, healthy believers have personal, experiential life with God. The truths of God were lived out personally, not perfectly, but personally.
Have you experienced God?
Have you felt Him touch your life with cleansing, strength, peace, joy, or insight?
Do you ask Him to help you understand the Bible?
Do you invite Him to be your Guide & Teacher as you read His Word? That is what it means to experience God.
They have tasted, eaten, fed upon, and personally known God.
Experience is the highest level of knowing. Recognition & acquaintance are lesser level.

Wow, they are given a message and told to wait until they are connected with the very intimate, indwelling power source of God's Spirit. Then when they are online, bang, they are to launch out and do what they saw, heard, and learned from the very life and ministry of Jesus.
Now turn to the launching pad. It is found in the book of the Acts of the Holy Spirit. That is the sequel to Luke. Luke wrote as the Holy Spirit inspired Him WHAT HAPPENED (that is the content of the Gospels) and then he wrote HOW THEY SHARED WHAT HAPPENED (that is the book of Acts) and then in the Epistles we have WHY ALL THIS HAD TO HAPPEN. That in brief is a summary of the entire New Testament.
Now as we turn to Acts we are actually turning on a video that lasts 30 years. What did I just say? Acts is not so much a book on doctrine as it is a divinely recorded and edited video of 30 years of sharing the greatest message ever given, by the greatest witnesses ever chosen. You see, the Holy Spirit empowered the Apostles to go and take the Gospel to the World. And records a news reporter quality full-color videotape of the 30 years from Pentecost to Paul's Imprisonment. The Book of Acts is our most critical insight into how they shared the Gospel!
So Acts is a video report of how the Apostles and disciples shared the Gospel message in every possible setting. What we get is to see how the eyewitnesses shared with the world what happened in the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus. As we go through all 28 chapters we find that there are 22-recorded events where a Gospel Message is presented. We will start this morning and finish the 22 events tonight.
The FIRST Gospel Presentation is in Acts 2. The time has come. After being called to be a fisherman for eternal souls. After being given on-site, hands-on training for three-plus years. After being tutored privately, commissioned publicly, and filled with the very Holy Spirit of God, Peter steps up to the microphone to deliver his first sermon. I'm sure his pulse was throbbing in anticipation, his heart pounding with excitement to at last say what he had been taught, shown, and commanded him, to say. So here it is, here is Gospel Presentation number one in Acts chapter 2. Peter preaches the first sermon after Christ's death, burial, resurrection, and sending the Holy Spirit down to indwell the Church. What does he say? Many things, all important

Thy Kingdom Come Means to Ask for Christ's Coming to Rule
We are to start each time we pray by pointing our prayers (and our hearts and minds) above. To exactly where above? To our Father in heaven.
Where is our Father in Heaven each time we pray? Seated upon the Throne as the Almighty God the Father.
That scene around the Throne is what we just saw last time in Daniel 7. That scene is what we extensively studied in Revelation 4 & 5. That Throne Room of the Universe is where every single prayer of each of us believers throughout all the ages is directed and is received.
What does the Lord’s Prayer remind us about?
Thy Kingdom Come means Satan’s Plan will fail
Thy Kingdom Come means God will Win
Thy Kingdom Come means I must surrender to His Reign
Hallelujah. Our God reigns.

What does a grace-energized church look like?
A grace-energized church is where believers are empowered by God to magnify Christ, when God's Word is prevailing in and through their lives. They are willing to consecrate their lives and rid themselves of anything that hinders or displeases God!
As you open in your Bibles, we will examine one of the most amazing chapters in the Bible, Acts 19. In this chapter we find a powerful grace-energized church that God used, and where Christ's glory is supreme.
This chapter is the biography of the saints at Ephesus, a phenomenal grace-energized church, and in that account we find the timeless keys to a church God can use greatly.
God's Word explains to us what makes Christ's church powerful in any culture. It is when:
• God’s Son is magnified, and
• God’s People are consecrated, then
• God's Word prevailed.
Jesus was magnified and God's Word prevailed in this group of consecrated people in the New Testament church at Ephesus. What a combination to have for the Lord in any generation. That powerful ministry was the result of a purged and obedient local church.
The grace-energized saints of Ephesus overcame the same pressures facing us as believers today: a pleasure-seeking culture, a mind-assaulting media, and a materialism-dominated way of life.
God's Word always has an answer for how to walk in the Spirit, abide in Christ, and see Christ's church prevail in an ever-darkening world. The struggle is always against our flesh and the Devil, and resisting both is what we are charged with as an imperative from God's Word.
