Google launches earthquake alerts on Android in India
Google has announced the launch of its earthquake alert system for Android devices in India.
The Android Earthquake Alerts System is rolling out to all Android 5+ users in India during the coming week. To receive alerts, users must have Wi-Fi or cellular data connectivity, and both Android Earthquake Alerts and location settings enabled. Users who do not wish to receive these alerts can turn off Earthquake Alerts in device settings.
The machine-learning model could help scientists speed the development of new medicines.

In a new study, published in the journal Gut Microbes, experts from the University of Nottingham found that exercise intervention in people with arthritis, did not just reduce their pain, but it also lowered the levels of inflammatory substances (called cytokines). It also increased levels of cannabis-like substances produced by their own bodies, called endocannabinoids. Interestingly, the way exercise resulted in these changes was by altering the gut microbes.

A Game developer named Roystan Ross has created a fully playable re-creation of the first level of Super Mario 64 game.
He created this as a proof-of-concept demo for his Super Character Controller project for Unity Game development platform.
Super Mario 64 is a 1996 platform video game published by Nintendo
Roystan Ross calls it Super Mario 64 HD, and it features the original game's first level, "Bob-Omb Battlefield."
Ross promises that everything is just as players of the 1996 game will remember, with a few exceptions, including no red coins and no Big Bob-Omb. But, it's still Super Mario 64 in your browser
The game works with several game controllers, such as those for the Xbox One and Xbox 360, as well as Sony’s DualShock 3 and 4 controllers.
For playing it in browser we need to install the Unity webplayer plugin.
Ross offers a downloadable version of the game, and offers builds for Windows, OS X, and Linux. If you’re a Unity developer, you can also download the project files and get a look at the source code itself.

By making use of enzymes found in the digestive tract, MIT engineers have devised a way to apply a temporary synthetic coating to the lining of the small intestine. This coating could be adapted to deliver drugs, aid in digestion, or prevent nutrients such as glucose from being absorbed.
In a study conducted in pigs, the researchers demonstrated that they could use this approach to simplify the delivery of medications that normally have to be taken multiple times per day. They also modified the coatings to deliver the enzyme lactase, which helps people digest the milk sugar lactose, and to block glucose absorption, which could offer a new strategy to treat diabetes or obesity.
The lining consists of a polymer made from dopamine molecules, which can be consumed as a liquid. Once the solution reaches the small intestine, the molecules are assembled into a polymer, in a reaction catalyzed by an enzyme found in the small intestine.

Scientists at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore have developed a liquid window panel that can simultaneously block the sun to regulate solar transmission, while trapping thermal heat that can be released through the day and night, helping to reduce energy consumption in buildings.
The NTU researchers developed their 'smart window' by placing hydrogel-based liquid within glass panels and found that it can reduce up to 45 per cent of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning energy consumption in buildings in simulations, compared to traditional glass windows. It is also around 30 per cent more energy efficient than commercially available low-emissivity (energy-efficient) glass, while being cheaper to make.

New homes are increasingly being outfitted with solar panels, heat pumps, rechargeable batteries and other means of producing and storing heat, electricity and gas, all of which interconnect with the electrical grid. At the level of an entire neighborhood, these decentralized, intermittent energy sources form a complex network, which can also include energy-consuming installations such as electric vehicle charging stations.
Managing these multi-energy systems and optimizing energy costs raises a number of questions. Should energy be consumed when it is produced, sold to the grid, or stored for later use? And how should various energy sources be distributed if there are groups of consumers generating their own energy?
Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM) has developed smart, predictive software capable of providing real-time answers to these questions. Designed for non-specialists, it makes use of weather forecasts, data from local infrastructure, residents' consumption habits and market energy costs. As its name indicates, Maestro is like an orchestra conductor that automatically manages resources and keeps costs down.
An online simulator, based on a building with eight family apartments, is available at https://portal.csem.ch:9006/
