cat-straddles-a-train!
While I was running my BNSF AC4400CW Premier Locomotive from MTH, my cat was running in and out from behind the sofa. I know it looks like there's lots of tiny specks on the carpet- and it might be seem dirty, but those are actually so very small I didn't even see them with my eyes until the camera (set to micro) picked every tiny thing up! Also there are a few pine needles on the carpet that my train picked up as it passed under the Christmas tree. Anyway, my cat would stop under the table and block the tracks. She finally moved off to the side but still wouldn't come out from under the table. I went to full smoke on my locomotive and smoked her out!! She was NOT happy...and most importantly... she was NOT hurt at all!

In September 2012 the Illinois Railway Museum's Burlington Route E5, the only one left in existence, piloted the "Nebraska Zephyr," on a scheduled-passenger excursion on its original tracks for the first time since its 1968 retirement. These tracks are the Mendota sub, of the BNSF line- and were the original CB&Q main running from Chicago to Quincy, IL with a stop in Galesburg, IL. I rode this on Sunday the 23rd. I covered all the on board shots in this video. Unfortunately- the train did a lot of rocking and it was hard to hold a steady shot with my camera when i was walking around. I also gathered videos of various fans who followed us on this historic trip and included them with this video. My seat was the last chair, in the last window, in the last car (the Parlor/observation Car). Joining me was my good friend Eddie B.- engineer for Iowa Interstate RR, my other friend from the IRM museum and director of operations for this excursion Harold K. and my mom. On Friday October 7th 2011, Iowa Interstate Railroad's East Train, led by locomotive #513 the "Rock Island" was coming into Illinois Valley on its way to Chicago. First stop in the Valley, was Bureau Junction, IL. About 8 miles west of Bureau Junction, in the tiny town of Tiskilwa, IL the 513's consist derailed. 26 cars total with 6 ethanol cars exploding and burning. The entire town of Tiskilwa was evacuated. Later that morning I flew over the wreck site in hopes of getting photos for an Iowa Interstate employee who's a friend of mine and was waiting at Bureau for alternate orders. Unfortunately there was lots of turbulence and I could not get a smooth ride. I was also dodging Chicago's Channel 7 ABC news helicopter who I also was talking to on the radio. In fact you can here me say to him "yeah I see ya.." in the video. It should be noted that the beautiful 513 was not damaged and there were no injuries.
