https://linktr.ee/thechristiankingIn a relationship, women do not have the same power as men.
Let me be clear: I’m not saying that men should make women feel like they’re not respected, valued, and appreciated. That’s not what I am saying.
We will see in scripture that a wife is not equal in authority to the husband.
“But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.”
(1 Corinthians 11:3)
There is a hierarchy of authority.
God – Christ – Man – Woman
This is not to say that women are not valuable. This has nothing to do with value, it’s about authority.
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”
(Galatians 3:28)
We are all the same in Christ Jesus, no matter where we are from, what our status is, or what gender we are.
In this regard, we are all equal, but not in terms of authority.
One thing many people do not understand is that marriage is not a partnership, like a business partnership, where both parties have an equal say in decision-making. That’s not how a marriage works.
Relationships can’t have two heads. The only head is the husband. If a woman, who I am in a relationship, with says that she is equal in authority to me, is like me telling Jesus that I am equal in authority to him. Which is not the case. Jesus is my authority, my leader, my head.
“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.”
(Colossians 3:18)
“For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.”
(Ephesians 5:23-24)
As a husband your going to want to take into consideration your wife’s council, opinions, concerns and feelings. But ultimately as the head, you have to make the final decision and the wife needs to submit to that. As long as it doesn’t go against God’s word of course.
Now unfortunately there are husbands who abuse this authority, which is unacceptable.
The Bible describes how husbands should behave as heads.
“Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.”
(Colossians 3:19)
“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;”
(Ephesians 5:25)
“So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.”
(Ephesians 5:28)
“Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.”
(Ephesians 5:33)
“Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.”
(1 Peter 3:7)
