MTH Premier ac4400cw & 4-8-4 Northern Modern "Fantasy" Rail-Fan Trip with MTH products.
Here is a short clip of my MTH Premier 4-8-4 "Santa Fe" 2900 class Northern and a Premier "BNSF" AC4400CW . Often on modern rail-fan trips with steam power, there is usually a Diesel-electric Loco lashed up as a helper and to supply electrical power for the coaches. So I thought of a "what if" Fan trip of a Santa Fe "2900" class Steam loco and a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Diesel circa 2010. When you watch you have to wait a minute for the train to come around. The 4-8-4 is a Protosound 2 upgrade I installed myself! I thought it looked pretty cool! (Those are Lionel Burlington Route GP-30s with TMCC in the background)

I was able to ride along side Iowa Interstate's ES44AC #513 in Rock Island colors. Sunday, March 13th 2011, I followed alongside for about 5 or 6 miles. The speed was 40. My camera man had to hold the camera inside the car because sticking the camera out the window caused too much wind-roar. So sorry for the car's Window frame. At about 1:50 into the video the Horn and bell sounds awesome!!
This was a rare occasion for 513 because it was in Peoria, IL, for a coal run to Ceder Rapids, IA. 513 usually runs the Council Bluffs-Blue Island route. So it was nice to see the Rock Island colors on the old Peoria Rocket! My trip started in Bureau Junction, Illinois. and ends in Annawan, IL. I'm slowed by having to stop at a stop sign just before the crossing- so I missed the train at the crossing.
This day seemed to be a popular one for the 513 as I was constantly negotiating around the "paparazzi" of the rail-fan world. These folks were standing on the tracks and on IAIS's property, blocking the intersections, passing in no passing zones and speeding. When I photograph trains (or anything for that matter) I like to be secluded, out of the way, and in a natural setting. I was able to get good shots though and despite the poor lighting conditions from the mostly cloudy sky I think it came out pretty well!
