Not one of those
poor soul
woke up
that day

pending fate.
Yes,
it’s sad
those innocent souls
were taken away,
but
there are
those souls
who will live out
their lives
all so afraid.
I’m speaking
of those who
escaped that
catastrophic day,
still thanking
the lord
for not sending
death their way.
But
what happen
to those souls
who believed
they cheated
the Grim Reaper,
who is
designated as
your official
timekeeper.
Well one such soul
by the name
of Jack,
survived
the world trade center
terrorist attack.
On that day
Jack worked off site
to do his job,
making the
Grim Reaper
feeling
he’s been
robbed.
Even though
Jack may have
thought he been
blessed,
later
died by the hands
of a
drunken driver,
in a
fatal car
wreck.
Another man
who survived
the terrorist attack,
because
he was late
going in,
then perished
in a recent
Staten island
ferry crash,
along with
some of his
friends.
So,
If you feel lucky
or
blessed
for cheating death,
just remember
that the Grim Reaper
has a job to do
and
will eventually
come for you
to pay your
final debt.

Dear Mommy:
I’m writing
to let you

I am here.

to cry,
sob
and grieve,
just as long

acknowledge
all that you
have achieved.
He said that
achievements come
in many
forms,
you see it,
touch it
and even know,
but you only
see it as
the norm.
Do you remember
when you
stayed up all night
when I had
the flu?
You nursed me
back to health,
for a simple
“I LOVE YOU”.
Or the time
I fell
and scraped
my knee,
with that magical
kiss of yours,
you made it
pain free.
And the time
I defied
your orders
and came
home late?
Like the loving
mother that
you are,
scolded
and
punished me,
by taking
away my skates.
So, Mommy,
if you
don’t know,
or doubt
what you
have achieved,
I want you
to take the time
to see,
who I
grew up to be.
Now,
I will end
this letter
by saying
that you were
more than just
a mother to me,
but also a friend,
and while you
are on
your knees,
just remember
this letter,
each time
you end your
prayers
with an AMEN.
