It is important to not only read the Bible but to also engage in the act of studying it. By delving deeper into the words and teachings found within, one can truly unlock the immense power that lies within the word of God. Through the process of studying, we can gain a more comprehensive understanding and appreciation for the wisdom and guidance provided by the Holy Spirit through the word of God. This allows us to connect with the divine message on a deeper level, enabling us to apply its teachings more effectively in our daily lives. So, let us not simply skim through the pages of the Bible, but rather, let us dedicate ourselves to the profound practice of studying it, for in doing so, we open ourselves up to a world of spiritual growth and transformation through the power of the Holy Spirit. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcioWP2blQI

It's hard when we go through tests of our faith, especially when it leads to failure on our part. We naturally feel ashamed and guilty. But why would God allow these things to happen in the first place?

Grace and Humility | By Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” 29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” 34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” 35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. 37 For no word from God will ever fail.” 38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her. (Luke 1:26-38)
Those who do not believe in the Lord live their lives as if everything depended on them. Those who believe in Jesus, however, know that they need grace every moment of their lives. They hunger and thirst for grace because everything in their existence depends on it. Without grace, they cannot survive nor thrive in this world. With grace, nothing is impossible with God. Grace is not just God's attitude toward us but His power that is at work in and through us.

God's Mysterious Works | By Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
25 I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in, 26 and in this way all Israel will be saved. As it is written: “The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob. 27 And this is my covenant with them when I take away their sins.” 28 As far as the gospel is concerned, they are enemies for your sake; but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on account of the patriarchs, 29 for God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable. 30 Just as you who were at one time disobedient to God have now received mercy as a result of their disobedience, 31 so they too have now become disobedient in order that they too may now receive mercy as a result of God’s mercy to you. 32 For God has bound everyone over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all. (Romans 11:25-32)
It's easy to get frustrated when we are trying to reach people for Christ. We are doing everything we can to win them but it seems like they continue to refuse the Gospel. This can easily lead to carnal attitudes on our part. We need to understand God's mysterious work in people's lives so that we will not give up. The Lord is working in ways that may not seem obvious to us. But He is still at work. We only need to trust in Him.

13 Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister. 14 I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean. 15 If your brother or sister is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy someone for whom Christ died. 16 Therefore do not let what you know is good be spoken of as evil. 17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, 18 because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and receives human approval. 19 Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. 20 Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a person to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble. 21 It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother or sister to fall. 22 So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who does not condemn himself by what he approves. 23 But whoever has doubts is condemned if they eat, because their eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin. (Romans 14:13-23)
We live in a self-centered world. People are more interested in their own rights and freedom to do what they want to do regardless of its effects upon others. They don't care if others might be hurt or offended for as long as they can get what they want. This is the kind of thinking that the Lord wants to change in people. Our minds need to be renewed when it comes to the exercise of our freedom. This can only happen through the Gospel. We can only become other-centered through the work of God's grace in us.

Main Idea: “The Gospel teaches us to be other-centered, not self-centered.” (“Tinuturuan tayo ng Ebanghelyo na isipin ang kapwa, hindi lamang ang ating sarili.”)
How can we be other-centered?
Two Ways
1. By His grace, prioritize love of others (13-18).
2. By His grace, pursue peace with others (19-23).

God's Way of Living | By Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
Date: Oct 5, 2022
Text: Psalm 36:1-12
We all have the choice of how we are going to live. Most people choose their way rather than God's way. God's way is not hidden, of course, although we have to make an effort to find out. It is found in God's revelation, the Bible, through faith in Jesus Christ. But we won't know about it if we are not willing to humble ourselves to seek God's wisdom. More importantly, we need to know the reasons why God's way of living is better than our way.

21 On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived. 22 When the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord”), 24 and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: “a pair of doves or two young pigeons.” ...39 When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth. 40 And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him.(Luke 2:21-24, 39-40)
It's not easy to be a parent these days. One difficult challenge is the scarcity of time. We don't have the time to parent our children well, and we feel guilty about it. We delegate this task to the school or the church, but we know it's not enough. Children are growing up without a moral compass because parents are seldom present to mentor or guide them. Add the influence of media and technology, and the results are not surprising. We need to learn the principles of pious parenting.

Storms of Life | By Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. 23 As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. 24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. 25 “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.” (Luke 8:22-25)
All of us go through storms in life. No one is exempted. But when it does happen, our response reveals the status of our spiritual lives. For most of us, our faith is severely tested during such times. We sometimes wonder, "Where is God?" He seems to be absent or unconcerned about what's going on in our lives during those critical moments. What must we remember during storms of life?

Understanding God's Kingdom | By Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
Date: Nov 4, 2022
Text: Luke 17:20-37
The kingdom of God is the central message of Jesus. Salvation in His name cannot be separated from this reality. To be saved is to actually enter into God's kingdom through faith in Jesus Christ.
To watch or listen, go to https://solo.to/rlccphil
#churchonline #digical #rlccphil
What should we understand about God's kingdom?
Four Truths
1. It is available now through faith in Jesus (vv.20-21).
2. It is coming soon according to God's timetable (vv.22-25).
3. It will catch people off-guard when it suddenly comes (vv.26-29).
4. It will exclude those who do not belong to Jesus (vv.30-37).
Central Idea: “God's kingdom gives us the freedom to live in wisdom.” (“Ang kaharian ng Diyos ang nagbibigay ng kalayaan mamuhay nang may karunungan.”)

6 So also Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” 7 Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham. 8 Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” 9 So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith. 10 For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.” 11 Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because “the righteous will live by faith.” 12 The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, it says, “The person who does these things will live by them.” 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” 14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit. (Galatians 3:6-14)
Holding on to our faith in the Gospel is the most important decision we can ever make. It's the only way we can be saved, not just in the beginning but until the very end of our lives. Unfortunately, some do not think it's that important. In fact, some would let go or set aside their faith in the Gospel because of various reasons (e.g., trials, testings, temptations, thorns, etc.). We must always remember how important faith is, not just faith in a general sense (e.g., that God exists or that He loves us) but faith in the Gospel about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
