What is Slutwalk: SlutWalk is a movement of protest marches which began on April 3, 2011, in response to a Toronto, Ontario police officer, Constable Michael Sanguinetti, suggesting that “women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized.” It has since spread to rallies around the world, where participants protest the victim-blaming and sex-shaming that is common in our society. Our Mission: Sexual assault affects everyone in the community, and some people require more support and resources than others. We know that LGBTQI youth, people of color, sex workers, and disabled people are the most likely to experience victimization, and we want to address this publicly.
