Approximately 10 years after the outbreak in Banoi, the United States government and US military are forced to put Los Angeles under full quarantine following reportings of a more rampantly volatile strain. In the midst of the quarantine, six individuals attempt to board one of the few remaining evacuation flights out of the city: Bruno: A hustling loan shark, Carla: A seasoned mechanic, Dani: A struggling retail associate, Ryan: A stripper with a fiery passion, Amy: A former athlete, and Jacob: A death defying stuntman. An infected stowaway happens to be on board amidst the confusion, causing the army no choice but to shoot it down. After regaining consciousness we narrowly survive the crash, but end up bitten and infected in our efforts to help some other survivors. After escaping the crash site we manage to make our way to the home of one of the crash survivors, actress Emma Jaunt, who reluctantly shelters us in spite of our infection. Emma's ex-boyfriend, arrives at the mansion, intending to evacuate the city after revealing he is immune to the infection, and without having succumbed to the infection ourselves come to realize that we share a similar immunity. Still with the intent to evacuate the city, we head to the nearest evacuation center at the Halperin Hotel in a desperate effort to contact the local authorities. The hotel turns out to be overrun with the infection and in our search to recover a radio we discover the commander's unit butchered and uncover evidence of unnatural body disposal is indicative of involvement from the military. We eventually recover a radio and make contact with Dr. Reuben Reed, a CDC doctor who insists we journey to to his safe haven in Santa Monica in order to synthesize a cure.
