I have let the dust settle on this new song overnight, and this is Take 3 of three remake versions done today. Although I am known for reworking my songs almost endlessly ("he never plays a song the same way ONCE!" a disgruntled drummer said of me), this is one that will stay the same. It's more of a portrayal, and it's a song of betrayal. As you can hear, it was birthed from an actual telephone call, a video recording of which has come into my possession... I seem to have been writing songs like this, or similar subject matter, for ... well, too damn long. When did I write 'Candle'? 1982? 'So Many Times Before' was what, 1983? I'm sick to my guts that there is a NEED to write songs like this, sick that nobody does anything... until it's too late. This song, plus 'The Last Song', and '"We Are Solicitors"' [videos 1032-1048, I think], and a new song I am trying not to write down yet because it is too emotional ['Where Do The Children Go To Cry?'] are part of a cycle that I am trying to work out a format for. Maybe an 'at home' concert, maybe a lyric-book, I don't know yet. Provisional title is 'Songs Of Injustice'. Fingers and this blasted disease permitting, of course. This is one of the items in a recently-rediscovered cache of long lost song lyrics and poems, found last week. Thanks to my life-long habit of annotating my lyrics when and where they were written, I know that this came to me at 23.25 on 09-10 March 1996, in bed. Because of the 2 dates, presumably this crossed midnight being written, and because of the content, presumably I had no date that evening. Music written yesterday, so, depending on how you look at it, this song either took me 30 minutes to write, or 27 years. This is Take 2, of 2 cut at this session. This one has been problematic. Lyrics written 29.11.2007, then lost. Music added yesterday, but almost all takes unuseable - some for technical reasons, some for physical impairment reasons. I came back to it today, on an even more poignant day, and for this one-off revisit, I have adjusted the chording slightly, to allow for the loss of finger movement. It's the best I am able to do, but I always do my best. The intro to Take 1 of 'What Will Be Left Of Me Tomorrow?', if you wish to view the video of it, tells you all about the song, plus, the reasons for the poor playing. If you'll take my word for it, the tune that came with the lyric was piano-based, and has a lovely ascending melody line between the closing 'G' of the 2nd lines and the opening 'G' of the third lines, I just cannot transpose it to guitar. I like the lyric, I am more than a little piqued that it went missing for 16 years and only turned up now. Must do some housework... Hello, thank you for viewing this video. This is both a new and an old song - the lyric dates from the circa 1986 or 87, the music dates from now. Quite a dark number, predating and presaging online stalking by at least a decade, it came to light within the last batch of "Lost Lyric" files, and I have included them in "Compromise Not Pictured", paperback out today [04.07.2023]. An 'electric lullaby' session! After a few days recording recital videos of "Poems For My Children", I wanted to get back behind a guitar for some sung versions today. The acoustic session was hampered by a finger callous continually catching under the 'A' string, unfortunately, so, I had an electric re-do. Launching into a spontaneous cover of Bob Dylan's classic 'Blowin' In The Wind' means this vid will go up with ads I'm afraid, hopefully they won't impact too much on it.
