IAIS 513 ES44AC Rock Island Heritage Please read discription.
March 13, 2011. This was a fun day. Iowa Interstate's ES44ac in Rock Island colors was pullin' a coal consist from Peoria, IL to Cedar Rapids, IA. This is unusual since the 513 usually runs the Council Bluffs, IA to Blue Island, IL (Chicago) route, CB-BI. It was nice to see the Rock Island colors on the Peoria Rocket again!
The video starts with 513 crossing at a private-secluded-dirt-grade crossing on Illinois Highway 29 coming from Peoria. It then passes the Hennepin crossing. Next its switches from the Peoria sub. to the CB-BI mainline at Bureau Junction, IL. Note the paparazzi of the rail-fan world standing on the tracks at the crossing (and quickly stepping off the tracks as 513 approaches). Next it's on to a spot just a few hundred yards from Bureau Junction. As 513 slowly passes hoppers sitting on a siding, note the engineer opens his window and gives me a wave :). At this point I begin my chase and pace of the beautiful 513. The next view is another private-secluded spot... sorry folks, I keep this one quiet from the paparazzi! Then it's off to a grade-crossing on Illinois Highway 40 just north of Buda, Illinois. From there the pace is on. I followed 513 along U.S. Highway 6 to Annawan, IL. I've posted this part of the video in it's entirety elsewhere on Youtube! As I approached Annawan, Illinois- I am slowed by having to stop at a stop sign just before the crossing- so I missed the train at the crossing.
Except for the poor lighting conditions for filming because of a mostly broken sky of clouds this was otherwise a fun day- a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!!!

Wednesday, 3-28-12, was an early morning call from my friend who works for IAIS. The 513 had come through Bureau Junction, Illinois on the nights of 25th and 26th, but those were bad photo ops as it was at night. So this call today was great! I met my friend at the Hennepin Crossing (who was engineering the 513 on a NS coal run). He brought me over to the 513 so I could get some cool stills up close. I then waited for them to pull out- We also pass the area near Tiskilwa were the October derailment occurred. Note the lack of foliage, gone from the fire and the new Ballast laid down. I tried something different: I photographed through the "Fish eye" lens to try a different effect- Its subtle but noticeable- I also included the stills in with the video: Please tell me what y'all think! Here is a short clip of my MTH Premier 4-8-4 "Santa Fe" 2900 class Northern and a Premier "BNSF" AC4400CW . Often on modern rail-fan trips with steam power, there is usually a Diesel-electric Loco lashed up as a helper and to supply electrical power for the coaches. So I thought of a "what if" Fan trip of a Santa Fe "2900" class Steam loco and a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Diesel circa 2010. When you watch you have to wait a minute for the train to come around. The 4-8-4 is a Protosound 2 upgrade I installed myself! I thought it looked pretty cool! (Those are Lionel Burlington Route GP-30s with TMCC in the background)
