What are the characteristics of a resilient disciple?
Four Characteristics
1. Takes sin and its consequences seriously (vv.1-3a).
2. Applies the grace of forgiveness generously (vv.3b-4).
3. Uses true faith courageously (vv.5-6).
4. Practices obedience with humility (vv.7-10).
Central Idea: “Resilient disciples have strong spiritual foundations.” (“Ang mga matatatag na disipulo ay may matibay na espirituwal na pundasyon.”)

Prayer is part of the classical disciplines of the Christian church. It is essential to our identity. But not everyone knows how to pray in this way. Often our prayers fall short of actually transforming us, other people, or even the world we live in. In other words, we pray only as needed or when there are emergencies, but not for transformation.

Being persecuted is a difficult experience. We experience hostility, harassment, and ill-treatment from others because of our beliefs. They may use verbal abuse or maybe even physical abuse. We may suffer because we choose to stand by our faith. Through intimidation and threats, they do all they can to force us to conform. How can we find comfort during such difficult times?

God's Wrath and His Character | Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
1 What advantage, then, is there in being a Jew, or what value is there in circumcision? 2 Much in every way! First of all, the Jews have been entrusted with the very words of God. 3 What if some were unfaithful? Will their unfaithfulness nullify God’s faithfulness? 4 Not at all! Let God be true, and every human being a liar. As it is written: “So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge.” 5 But if our unrighteousness brings out God’s righteousness more clearly, what shall we say? That God is unjust in bringing his wrath on us? (I am using a human argument.) 6 Certainly not! If that were so, how could God judge the world? 7 Someone might argue, “If my falsehood enhances God’s truthfulness and so increases his glory, why am I still condemned as a sinner?” 8 Why not say — as some slanderously claim that we say — “Let us do evil that good may result”? Their condemnation is just! (Romans 3:1-8)
Some people find it hard to reconcile the concept of God's wrath with what they perceive to be the character of God. In other words, if God loves us, how can He judge us? For many, God's wrath is inconsistent with His loving, kind, and merciful character. They cannot reconcile those two concepts. It's either one or the other. It cannot be both. Thus, they stumble. But God's wrath is not contrary to His character.

The Universal Problem of Sin | Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
9 What shall we conclude then? Do we have any advantage? Not at all! For we have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under the power of sin. 10 As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one; 11 there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. 12 All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.” 13 “Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit.” “The poison of vipers is on their lips.” 14 “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.” 15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood; 16 ruin and misery mark their ways, 17 and the way of peace they do not know.” 18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.” 19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. 20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin. (Romans 3:9-20)
Our understanding of our real problem as human beings will determine the solution we think we really need. If the problem is economic, we may propose economic solutions like having equal opportunities for all or lowering the inflation rate or interest rate, etc. If the problem is ignorance, we would assume knowledge is the key. Let's put up more schools, etc. If we think the problem is criminality, let's put more people in jails or let's come up with more laws, etc. In other words, if we don't understand the real problem, we will always come up with the wrong solutions. For Paul, our universal problem is sin, and the only real solution is the Gospel.

It can cause harm by misinforming the public, creating social and political divisions, and undermining trust in credible sources. In an era where information is easily accessible through social media, it is crucial to verify the accuracy of information before accepting it as truth. This is especially so when it comes to our faith and practice. We must know and believe the truth about Jesus as revealed in God's word, the Bible. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The Jesus we see in the Scriptures is the same Jesus we can believe in and follow today. As we begin this new series, we want to look at Jesus as the One who reveals invisible realities to us.

15 The nations have fallen into the pit they have dug; their feet are caught in the net they have hidden. 16 The Lord is known by his acts of justice; the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands. 17 The wicked go down to the realm of the dead, all the nations that forget God. 18 But God will never forget the needy; the hope of the afflicted will never perish. 19 Arise, Lord, do not let mortals triumph; let the nations be judged in your presence. 20 Strike them with terror, Lord; let the nations know they are only mortal. (Psalm 9:15-20)
Sometimes when we look around us, we envy those who don't seem to care about God but are actually happy or are doing well in their lives. It makes us think, "Why are these people doing well when in fact they are disregarding or rejecting God?" It may create doubts in our hearts. We may ask, "Is following and obeying God really worth it?" Before we conclude wrongly that God is unfair, perhaps it will do us good to know the end of those who reject God or what the Bible calls the "wicked".
