I was in Waterloo, Iowa this past weekend visiting a 97 year old relative of ours, a World War Two vet.. While my stay, I checked out the Waterloo Air Show, "Thunder in the Valley" to see the United States Air Force Thunderbird, Flight Demo Squadron. This was their next show after the CHICAGO AIR & WATER Show. I live near Chicago but missed them there. I'm mostly a Navy Blue Angels fan. They fly tighter and frankly I think they are crisper in their maneuvers. But- a pilot is a pilot and that means I appreciate the beauty of flight no matter who- Here are a few of the many video shots I took while there- For some reason, clouds in the sky seemed reddish in color with the sun... probably because of the humidity (haze) in the sky. Here is another short clip of my MTH Premier 4-8-4 "Santa Fe" 2900 class Northern and a Premier "BNSF" AC4400CW . As mentioned before often on modern railfan trips with steam power, there is usually a Diesel-electric Loco lashed up as a helper and to supply electrical power for the coaches. I thought of a "what if" Fan trip of a Santa Fe "2900" Steam loco and a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Diesel from 2010. You'll have to wait a minute for the train to come around. The 4-8-4 is a Protosound 2 upgrade I installed myself! Those are 2 Lionel Burlington Route GP-30s with TMCC in the siding. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9lRI_617Bk

In September 2012 the Illinois Railway Museum's Burlington Route E5, the only one left in existence, piloted the "Nebraska Zephyr," on a scheduled-passenger excursion on its original tracks for the first time since its 1968 retirement. These tracks are the Mendota sub, of the BNSF line- and were the original CB&Q main running from Chicago to Quincy, IL with a stop in Galesburg, IL. I rode this on Sunday the 23rd. I covered all the on board shots in this video. Unfortunately- the train did a lot of rocking and it was hard to hold a steady shot with my camera when i was walking around. I also gathered videos of various fans who followed us on this historic trip and included them with this video. My seat was the last chair, in the last window, in the last car (the Parlor/observation Car). Joining me was my good friend Eddie B.- engineer for Iowa Interstate RR, my other friend from the IRM museum and director of operations for this excursion Harold K. and my mom. Here is a BNSF coal on the orginal CB&Q mainline between Chicago and Galesburg in North Central Illinois. It is early evening in summer and the sun is setting as this train is heading north to Chicago. I'm facing southwest looking in the direction to Galesburg. Wednesday, 3-28-12, was an early morning call from my friend who works for IAIS. The 513 had come through Bureau Junction, Illinois on the nights of 25th and 26th, but those were bad photo ops as it was at night. So this call today was great! I met my friend at the Hennepin Crossing (who was engineering the 513 on a NS coal run). He brought me over to the 513 so I could get some cool stills up close. I then waited for them to pull out- We also pass the area near Tiskilwa were the October derailment occurred. Note the lack of foliage, gone from the fire and the new Ballast laid down. I tried something different: I photographed through the "Fish eye" lens to try a different effect- Its subtle but noticeable- I also included the stills in with the video: Please tell me what y'all think!
