Here is an oldie but goodie EDC knife I've carried for years. This is the Wiss WKFP1 tanto, plain and serrated stainless steel assisted opening knife. Now I know a lot of people don't like serrated knives, but its my blade choice for the work I do. It has a stout but comfortable liner lock. The opening from the assist is powerful but smooth. There is no play in the blade. The plastic handle features a large lanyard hole, and a reversible belt clip. Also, it appears this knife is not made in China, but I don't see anything that says USA, either. Today we take a look at the Gerber Pledge. This is a budget edc folder, with 7Cr17mov steel reverse tanto blade, a green/lichen colored glass reinforced nylon handle, and a liner lock. The pocket clip is reversible for those left or right handed people, and its carried tip up. If you a little OCD, you may notice that even though the blade is well centered in the handle while closed, the spine of the blade is not parallel with the edge of the handle. Though that does look like an easy fix. The thumb stud has much to be desired, not impossible to use, but not easy to deploy for me using said thumb stud. The thumb stud does appear to to be able to swapped to the other side though, and that may help eliminate issues for me. The last issue for me is what appears to be a secondary lock "feature", though it may just need a bit more refining, where the back of the blade meets the liner lock. All in all, its not a bad knife, just needs a bit of personal modification to make this budget edc folding knife work better for me.

This weeks book of the week is Composting For A New Generation by by Michelle Balz and Anna Stockton. This is a great indepth book about composting, types of composting, different setups, what you should and should not add to your pile, and why should you compost. This is the same book that got me to decide to make a compost pile in my backyard, to supplement our plants, herbs and vegetables, since we have poor heavy clay as a soil type. I personally don't add any food scrapes with the exception of coffee grounds, to keep the smell negligible, and the pests away. This is a good book to have for farming and homesteaders alike.
A personal tip: Sometimes I get lazy, and place larger items like tomato plant branches into the pile, and they take what seems as months to break down. So my tip, which is in the book, and is very accurate, when you can, cut larger items up into smaller pieces, this gives more surface area for the microorganisms to break down the material, and it will break down much faster.
Please take a look at this book at your local library, or you can purchase from either Books-A-Million or the Amazon links below.

The Joy of Keeping a Root Cellar by Jennifer Megyesi, is this weeks book of the week. In this book you learn about canning, pickling, freezing, drying and smoking, as well as storage setups that are not an actual root cellar, like you would find in a cabin or on a farm. If you want to know more about food preservation in your home, homestead, farm, and in urban/suburban environments, this is a great book for you.

Do you ever have one of those days where nothing goes well? And now your required to attend a business function.... Here is a little sewing kit to fix that loose button you lost at the salad bar. Whether you leave it in your back pocket, or just in your car's glove-box, your prepared. Also great for fixing gear on the trail, or even emergency impromptu stitches in a bind (not recommended, but its better than bleeding out).

Sencut Actium is a lightweight pocket knife, with a black stone washed D2 steel, purple G10 scales, and a reversible deep carry clip. This is an excellent budget edc knife.
