Great Expectations | By Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
Date: Oct 13, 2022
Text: Psalm 40:11-17
Hope is the confident expectation of future good. But our hope in the Lord is not just a general expectation. It is a "great" expectation of what God would do because of who He is. Our knowledge of God borne out of our experience of Him in the past based on His promises in His word gives us hope to expect "great things" from the Lord.

Central Idea: “Those who wait upon the Lord have great expectations.” (“Yaong mga naghihintay sa Panginoon ay may malaking inaasahan.”)
What can we expect from the Lord?
Three Great Expectations
1. The manifestation of His love and faithfulness (vv.11-13).
2. The vindication of His name and honor (vv.14-16).
3. The revelation of His help and deliverance (v.17).

Available to the Master | By Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
1 One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. 2 He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. 3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat. 4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” 5 Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” 6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. 7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. 8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” 9 For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, 10 and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” 11 So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him. (Luke 5:1-11)
God can and will use anyone as He pleases. It's all by His grace. But we can choose to be available to the Master if we so desire. We can posture and position ourselves so the Lord may use us according to His purpose and will. In other words, we can make ourselves more available to Him so that if it pleases the Lord to use us, He can. We can offer our lives to Him as a living sacrifice.

A Pilgrim's Perspective | By Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
Date: Oct 11, 2022
Text: Psalm 39:1-13
Having the proper perspective in life can help all of us live with wisdom in this mad world. Those who do not have the proper view eventually get swallowed up by the world's system. When life has no meaning other than what everyone else in the world is striving for, we become anxious and stressed out. But when we have a "pilgrim's perspective" in life, we experience God's peace and enjoy it.

Central Idea: “If you are not of this world, you can live in peace.” (“Kung hindi kayo alipin ng sanglibutang ito, makapamumuhay kayo nang mapayapa.”)
How can we develop a "pilgrim's perspective" in life?
Four Ways
1. Guard your heart (vv.1-3).
2. Remember life is short (vv.4-6).
3. Put your hope in God (vv.7-11).
4. Live as foreigners (vv.12-13).

1 Listen to my words, Lord, consider my lament. 2 Hear my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. 3 In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly. 4 For you are not a God who is pleased with wickedness; with you, evil people are not welcome. 5 The arrogant cannot stand in your presence. You hate all who do wrong; 6 you destroy those who tell lies. The bloodthirsty and deceitful you, Lord, detest. 7 But I, by your great love, can come into your house; in reverence I bow down toward your holy temple. 8 Lead me, Lord, in your righteousness because of my enemies—make your way straight before me. 9 Not a word from their mouth can be trusted; their heart is filled with malice. Their throat is an open grave; with their tongues they tell lies. 10 Declare them guilty, O God! Let their intrigues be their downfall. Banish them for their many sins, for they have rebelled against you. 11 But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. 12 Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield. (Psalm 5:1-12)
Some people don't believe in prayer. They may not say it outright with their words, but by their actions, you can see that they don't believe prayer is really that important in one's life. Otherwise, they will pray more and encourage others to pray more. In fact, many Christians today do not pray regularly, except in church. Why? There may be many reasons. But one common reason is that they are not sure whether it is effective or not. Does God really hear our prayers?

How can we be confident that God hears our prayers?
Four Assurances
1. God hears those who relate with Him personally (vv.1-2).
2. God hears those who are righteous by His grace (vv.3-7).
3. God hears those who love Him in words and deeds (vv.8-10).
4. God hears those who take refuge in Him (vv.11-12).

The Bible is very important for our spiritual walk and growth. Unfortunately, not everyone has an easy time reading or studying the Bible. Many people struggle due to language barriers, lack of access, or simply not having the time to study it. Despite these struggles, there are ways to overcome them.

The Spiritual Solution | By Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
The solution to every problem depends on the nature of that problem. If a problem is medical in nature, we will seek a medical solution. If the problem is financial, we will find ways to come up with financial solutions. When it comes to relationships, we often assume it's a natural problem. So, we look for natural solutions. But this is wrong. The problem, as we have seen, is that relationships involve people who are spiritual beings with a spiritual problem (i.e., the flesh) and spiritual enemies. Therefore, the solution must be spiritual.
