My photographer friend Patrick has an awesome Nikon 200-500mm zoom lens. The hood that he connects to the end of the lens to protect from the sun has cracked after extensive use. I looked at it and said "How hard can it be to design and print a new one?" We all know what happens after that, but frankly it was fairly straightforward with my middling Fusion360 skills.
The lens model is "AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR". This hood may fit other Nikon lenses or other manufacturers who follow a similar bayonet pattern.
Sliced with Simplify3D on medium setting and 100% infill, it takes 12.5 hours to print and needs only a touch-up with an xacto knife to smoothly snap onto the zoom lens.

I singlehandedly saved the Universe, for ice cream! A friend of a friend needed a new gear for an ice cream scoop with an ejector feature, so I designed the part in Fusion 360, set up the printing parameters in Simplify 3D and printed it in very durable ABS plastic on my 3D printer. Things did not go smoothly along the way, but everything turned out nicely in the end.

The Silicon Labs CP2102N USB chip does not flash LEDs that are connected to the LED flash pins... so I walk through downloading the utility to update the chip's configuration. They seem a bit dim so I replace the LED's current limiting resistors.

Today is a big one, the SpaceX rocket production and launch site in Boca Chica Texas. This is where SpaceX is building their next-generation rocket system called Starship that will launch satellites and take people and caro to the Moon and Mars.
