Welcome to another Tech Review Tuesday. This week I'm checking out a new rugged Smart phone from Oukitel, the WP27. It's nicely specced out, will survive more abuse than the regular phone, and has a huge battery. Let's see how it performs!
People kept using Cinewhoops as an attempt at a crash-resistant quad. Trouble is they were heavy and sluggish and didn't fly all that well. So HGLRC has designed a Cinewhoop style quad specifically to throw around like a regular and be crash-resistant at the same time. Let's see how well it performs.
This quad was kindly supplied by review by HGLRC, so please consider using the following (affiliate) links to take a look in more detail.
The model I used was the analog version https://www.hglrc.com/collections/new-arrivals/products/hglrc-racewhoop30-3-fpv-racing-drone-analog-version?ref=nlrq3y-lbgm
There's also a DJI FPV compatible version (which uses the CADDX Polar vista) here https://www.hglrc.com/collections/new-arrivals/products/hglrc-racewhoop30-fpv-racing-drone-hd-version?ref=nlrq3y-lbgm

I've had a look at a few robot car kits, but they mostly use Arduino boards for the car's "brain". This time I'm using the far more powerful Raspberry Pi 4. Let's check out what that extra computational power can do.
This robot car was kindly supplied by SunFounder for review, so please use this (affiliate) link to check out their product in more detail https://www.sunfounder.com/products/picar-x?ref=nlrq3y-lbgm

The DroneKeeper Mini is such a simple idea, and yet it's brilliant. In it's simplest form, it's a beeper with it's own battery that starts to beep when there's no movement for more than 30 seconds.
You can get them from NicheTek here - http://www.nichemall.net/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=50
I took it out for an in-depth test - I didn't have any lipo situation where the lipo ejected this time, but I dumped the quad down in long grass that would have been very challenging to find without any alarm system.
It's easy to stick on a lipo, so I'll be using these as another level of protection against losing my models. I think they'll also come in very hand with the small planes I tend to fly

I've really been liking the Foxeer cameras that have come my way recently, so I was excited about testing out this camera/VTX package. But let's do something different from that normal test quad I use :)

Not much going on in this video, I just wanted to see if the KK2 board would be much improvement on the original.
Once I got it working correctly, it was quite noticeably better. Although I could hover my Tri perfectly before, there was a lot more stick input from me to do it, and now I can take my hands of the controls, and it doesn't do much. This is in normal mode as well - I didn't have a spare servo lead so I could try turning on auto-stabilization.
My only concern is that the yaw servo is moving around a lot. That said, this doesn't seem to affect it's flying or stability.

It looks like a GoPro Session, and even fits into the mounts - but how does it perform. Let's dig in and find out.

As per the title, this was just a quick video that I was prompted to make after a few emails, but this sort of practice is rife everywhere there are any stock shortages. I'm not talking about you selling one part second-hand and almost getting the full price back because the market changed. I'm talking about people deliberately buying up all the stock possible and then hugely inflating the prices.
It can be tough these days as we all want that instant gratification of getting something RIGHT NOW. But if we give in the problem will grow. I guarantee that anyone in the hobby will always have at least 3 projects they were meaning to get around to - do those instead while the item you want comes back into normal stock and then pick it up from your local supplier.
I did tell Jenny in the emails that I thought their pricing was an outrage and wouldn't be having anything to do with them, but I did mention that I would make a video about them.... but perhaps not in the way she wanted. I'll be sure to send her the link to this video.

I was going to have a look at a 3d flight controller that MicroRCFiend (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPZ_clofCyn-iwgt7Pje-Fg) was helping the developers with - but it looks like they stopped whatever development they were doing, so in the meantime he was kind enough to send me over the FlyColor all-in-one 4 blheli 20a escs and f3 FC. Since I already had the 3d Gemfan props, I decided to try betaflights version of 3d.
If you are interested in the FlyColor, please feel free to use MicroRCFiends affiliate link here http://www.gearbest.com/multi-rotor-parts/pp_357756.html?lkid=10002833
The 3d part of cleanflight isn't as well documented as it could be, but happily I got some assistance from teracis in this RCgroups thread http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2480732&page=51
I need to have a decent tune up (although as I mention, it could be those cheap-ass motors are just rubbish). In that last crash, I'd flipped it upside down and when I pushed the throttle down it went right way up again, so I pushed the throttle up and it flipped back over... I can't win there.
I'll be back soon to have another go though
