A communion word.
The scripture shows four things that Christ borrowed and one thing that he bought.
The first thing that Christ borrowed was a place to be born. In Luke 2:7, she laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. Mary and Joseph were unable to find lodging, so they had to use a manger as a makeshift crib for baby Jesus.
The second thing that Christ borrowed was a donkey, in Matthew 21:7. This was during Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem, where he rode on a borrowed donkey.
The third thing that Christ borrowed was a room. In Luke 22:10-12, Christ and his disciples had to borrow a room to celebrate Passover.
The fourth thing that Christ borrowed was a tomb. In Matthew 27:59-60, Joseph laid Christ's body in his own new tomb.
The one thing that Christ bought was our salvation. 1 Corinthians 6:20, You were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. Christ paid the ultimate price of his own life to purchase our salvation and bring us into a right relationship with God.

God’s call to sinners like us is a gracious call that should bring us to repentance and to flee, not away from God, but towards God. When God asks, ‘Where are you?’ may we respond, ‘In Christ!’

What was it that made all the difference in Joseph's life? The Lord was with him.
Joseph found God's grace through the journey of his life. JOSEPH demonstrates for us THE POWER OF A GODLY LIFE.
His name means "He increases". Joseph shows us how to handle temptation, and the setbacks and hurts of life.
What made the difference in his life was that God was with him (Acts 7:9). He honoured the Lord and learned to depend on God. His life was marked by faithfulness and servanthood and integrity.
What matters is not so much the events or circumstances of life, but your response to them.
We can learn from Joseph’s life… to be faithful and have self control as we face temptation; to persevere in times of trouble, and keep on faithfully serving God; and we can extend grace and forgiveness and keep sweet.

A look at how Esther and Mordecai, her uncle, handled a time of crisis - and how God works out His purpose and plan.
The King held a great feast and called for his wife, Queen Vashti. But she refused to attend. This enraged him, and he set about choosing a new queen. Esther became the new Queen of Persia. The king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight… he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen.
We learn, from Esther, and Mordecai, how to… STAND UP. That’s what happened when Haman showed up. Haman was a big-shot, high ranking official who wanted glory for himself. But Mordecai refused to bow down and honour Haman. Mordecai stood up. He stood up for his convictions.
Like Haman, satan craves your worship. Satan gets people to bow down and worship money, self, success, whatever it be - anything but God. Don’t be afraid to stand up for what is right, even if it’s not popular, and it makes you a target. Stand for God, no matter what.
Haman was like a little satan, full of pride. He wanted praise, he hated Mordecai, and he wanted to destroy God’s people. Haman was so angry that he talked the King into ordering the destruction of Mordecai, and the Jews.
When you face a crisis - determine to stand up. Stand up, for what’s Biblically right… When the enemy of God’s people threatens us… that’s not the time for us to bow. Stand up for your convictions. Stand up for God. Stand prayerfully. Stand spiritually.
When challenge comes we have need to… STEP UP. It was a time of great despair, and of danger for God’s people. It seemed all hope was lost. Yet it was also a time for courage. Mordecai encouraged Esther to go in to the King to plead, before him, for her people.
Esther was taking a huge risk. The law said she could be put to death to approach the King. Her only hope was if the King gave her favour. Esther could have taken the easy way out, and done nothing. But Esther did not back off and shrink back in fear. No, she stepped up in faith. She rose to the challenge. She was this one woman, who had come from nowhere. God works through ordinary people, like Esther, to protect and redeem His chosen people. He calls us to step up, and trust Him.
Esther was chosen by God for “such a time as this”. Who knows what God can do with your life. Just step up to the plate. God will give you the courage you need. That’s why God has placed you where you are! He’s got a mission only you can fulfil. For such a time as this. It may mean putting yourself out. Stepping out of the comfort zone. Taking a risk. The Lord has our life mapped out, for all of us, and He has His purposes for us… His best. We don’t want to miss that!

When They Prayed: Acts 4:31, And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
When God’s people pray it creates a shake up. A holy agitation. A divine disturbance.
Prayer is Powerful. It’s disruptive. Something happens. Heaven impacts earth.
We need to get to a place of dissatisfaction. The church can be the epicentre of a divine move of God.
Isaiah cried out… Isaiah 64:1, Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence.
When we truly pray through… God rends the Heavens – He tears them wide open. God takes over. He intervenes in the human dimension. He shake us from the status quo. He convicts us of our sin and make us cry out to Him.
How we need to be shaken! God shake your church! Shake us Lord - out of our apathy and unbelief, out of our complacency and sloth, out of our tradition and ritual, out of our lukewarmness, our powerlessness. Grant us thy holy fire. Grant us thy power and zeal.
The church needs a shake up. We need to be stirred and agitated.
When they prayed... they were filled. We need His Filling, His Spirit. We need the filling of the Holy Spirit. The indwelling Holy Spirit of God.
Many believers are not filled. They’re running on empty. They haven’t sought the face of Almighty God for so long. Their lives are full, but not of God. Filled with self and the pleasures of sin for a season. Filled with vain pursuits and interests. Filled with vanity and pleasure. Filled with business or busyness. Filled with the spirit of the world. But not Filled with the Holy Spirit.
To be filled with God, one must be emptied of self. Let us seek the real thing. We see glimpses of it there back in real revival days. When men and women wept under the awesome power and trembling conviction of God’s Holy Word. When people truly turned in faith to trust the crucified One to save them and sanctify them. When whole nations were turned upside down. Whole communities were swept by the fear of almighty God.
We must have the Holy Spirit come and infill us.
When you pray, you’re going to get bold. They were bold - out-spoken, frank, blunt, with assurance. Speaking the Word of God.
Where are the men of God? Men of God with Boldness? Men of God with the Word of God. Be bold! Will you go to those in the miry clay and tell them of the Saviour? Will you go to those drowning in the cesspit and tell them of His saving grace?
Some would wait for training. Wait for some kind of tingling, some sensation. Some would even see the need, and yet, say to God, “Here am I Lord, send someone else.”
