Hey guys- Here is my new Burlington Northern U30C by MTH. This was given to me for my birthday back on July 18th. This locomotive as been on the market now for several years but its new to me. This review is not of the locomotive itself as is out of the box, but more on a review of the extra details I did to this fine model as well as some lighting modifications that I did to isolate each bulbs' illumination. What! Cell Phones in 1970s? More on that later... Here are two Premier U30Cs by MTH. This is just a little video (no narration) review MTH's latest releases from thier 2010 catalog, vol. 2. They are Rock Island cabs #4589 and #4592. I have the two running around my temporary track layout in a dual powered lash-up (no dummy engines here!). At the beginning of the video I run through the freight yard announcements (FYA) dialog. NOTICE.... I changed the sound file of #4589 and It's the only one I can find that has this type of a horn (it's a real honker!). The problem is the FYA has a guy telling the other he will call him on his cell phone. The problem is... When the real of these locomotives ran back in the 1970s THEY DIDN'T HAVE CELL PHONES!!! So by changing the sound file I kinda messed with the prototypical scene of it all, But I really don't run FYA anyway so it'a all good! I love the this horn! At the end of the video I do a quick light demonstration. I opened up the body shell to access the lights. I did a modification so that the number boards and headlight wouldn't light up the cab. My demo shows the Number boards, headlights, markers, and interior modifications. I then do a final sequence shut down. BTW- When you hear the guy say "take care- see you soon" that is NOT ME! That is the sound file recording from MTH. I make these videos in hopes that others can see and hear the types of MTH models and sounds that are out there. Hopefully this will help you chose your next model. March 13, 2011. This was a fun day. Iowa Interstate's ES44ac in Rock Island colors was pullin' a coal consist from Peoria, IL to Cedar Rapids, IA. This is unusual since the 513 usually runs the Council Bluffs, IA to Blue Island, IL (Chicago) route, CB-BI. It was nice to see the Rock Island colors on the Peoria Rocket again! The video starts with 513 crossing at a private-secluded-dirt-grade crossing on Illinois Highway 29 coming from Peoria. It then passes the Hennepin crossing. Next its switches from the Peoria sub. to the CB-BI mainline at Bureau Junction, IL. Note the paparazzi of the rail-fan world standing on the tracks at the crossing (and quickly stepping off the tracks as 513 approaches). Next it's on to a spot just a few hundred yards from Bureau Junction. As 513 slowly passes hoppers sitting on a siding, note the engineer opens his window and gives me a wave :). At this point I begin my chase and pace of the beautiful 513. The next view is another private-secluded spot... sorry folks, I keep this one quiet from the paparazzi! Then it's off to a grade-crossing on Illinois Highway 40 just north of Buda, Illinois. From there the pace is on. I followed 513 along U.S. Highway 6 to Annawan, IL. I've posted this part of the video in it's entirety elsewhere on Youtube! As I approached Annawan, Illinois- I am slowed by having to stop at a stop sign just before the crossing- so I missed the train at the crossing. Except for the poor lighting conditions for filming because of a mostly broken sky of clouds this was otherwise a fun day- a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!!! ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaLeQwlfkQw
