Good Friday is all about God the Father sacrificing His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ on an altar as the Lamb of God slain for the sin of the world. The altar that God used is the cross of Christ's crucifixion. Watching and listening to Christ upon the Cross: is an amazing glimpse into the very heart of God. But above and beyond everything else we could see, hear, or understand at the crucifixion: it is Jesus sharing the Gospel, in His first ten words, that should thrill our hearts tonight. We gather tonight out of love and devotion for the One who suffered and bled and died for us two thousand years ago. As we come to remember, reverence, and worship Him for what He did for us, listen to those 10 astounding words of Luke 23:34: Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” Each time we enter the treasure house of this record in God's Word, giving us Christ's last week, His final day, and then Christ's glorious resurrection: we are astounded. There is so much to see, and so much to discover; as we will someday see around the Throne of God when we join in the worship of the Lamb slain for us: we will never run out of ways to thank Him. As we focus on these six hours of the crucifixion, the most vital detail that the Lord brings to us in the Scriptures is the fact that Jesus actually spoke from the Cross; and God's Word records each of those seven times. These seven messages are an amazing explanation by Jesus Himself, of what He was doing for us on the Cross. The Ultimate Peacemaker: The Beast One man, the Beast of Rev. 13 makes a peace treaty that keeps Israel & the Arab/Muslim world at peace for 3 ½ years. Look back at v. 27. But to close, look at what this amazing politician and peace-maker does in Rev. 13:16-17 (NKJV): He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. So it gets so bad either you take the mark, get signed by the Beast as under his ownership, or you die. Life and death are in his hands. Fear will be so great most of the world will bow, let him sign them as belonging to him. Souls signed by the devil are irrecoverable as it says in Rev 13. So what is the use, he is so bad, so powerful, so unstoppable. What can stand against him? Just one thing and it is just as powerful today as it will be then: the signature of God. THE SUPPLY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT PHILIPPIANS 1:19 In the ancient world, the world of the Parthenon, Areopagus, the Acropolis, Coliseum, vast amphitheaters, hippodromes, and agoras… As chariots rattled and horses snorted and pawed at the cobblestone Roman roads... Gladiators, athletes, and Roman legionaries robed in purple, scarlet, and white… Sun glinted from swords, shields, helmets, and the gold of temples and shrines… Helmets and the gold of temples and shrines… The glories of Greece and Rome. OPEN TO PHIL. 1:19 – To meet an actual person known in every city-a rich and very generous benefactor who supplied and directed the music festival each year. He was called the epichoregos. English chorus comes from this word. This man - • Obtained the amphitheater. • Searched out the music. • Hired the musicians. • Engaged instruments • Invited the town. • Supplied the food, drink, and money to make this weeklong event possible. • He then led the entire concert and show. The Epichoregos of the New Testament is the Holy Spirit. HE SUPPLIES ALL WE NEED What a lesson I learned in my freshman year, hired on as a stagehand at the old Metropolitan Opera House works at the Rodeheaver Auditorium Concert, Play & Opera House. There were 10 stories of lifts, stages, props, curtains, and every other needed item for Shakespeare, operas, concerts, symphonies and all. What a reminder that even more, GOD has all we need available by way of His Spirit! What is the fellowship of spirit? Three Things: 1. Fellowship with God (I. Jn. 1:3) 2. Fellowship with each other (Phil. 2:1-4) 3. Fellowship with the ministry (1:25, 2:13) So, Holy Spirit in Philippians is the One who supplies us and prompts true fellowship. Here in one verse God ties together the Cunning Serpent of the Garden that drew mankind into sin, with the Accuser of Job, with the Devil of Christ's Temptation, with Satan the Adversary of all that God is doing. All of these various depictions of Lucifer (Isaiah 14, Ezk. 28), fallen to become Satan the Devil, are united here in this verse. Bottom line: Satan is Dangerous Look at what the New Testament has already warned us about Satan’s activities: SATAN MULTIPLIES EVIL DOERS: Matthew 13:25, 38-39 "but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. 38 "The field is the World, the good seeds are the sons of the Kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked [one.] 39 "The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels. (NKJV) SATAN STEALS THE WORD: Mark 4:15 "And these are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts. (NKJV) SATAN RESISTS MINISTRY ADVANCES: Luke 10:17-18 Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.” And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven”. Satan is actively seeking to disrupt, destroy, derail, deceive, and defile anything that God is doing. SATAN INVADES HEARTS: Acts 5:3 But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back [part] of the price of the land for yourself? (NKJV). Satan seems to have the power of mental suggestion, which in the individual becomes auto suggestion, and which unless halted and hindered by the Word and Spirit of God will also in him be expressed by word and action. SATAN AUTHORS SUFFERING: Acts 10:38 "how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil , for God was with Him. (NKJV). In the final analysis Satan is the ultimate source of all suffering, because he is the ultimate source of all sin, its primal cause. He is also immediately responsible for many individual cases of sickness and disease; of which examples are furnished us in the New Testament. SATAN BLINDS MINDS TO THE TRUTH: 2 Corinthians 4:4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. (NKJV). Unbelief of the truth seems to be the same as a special invitation to Satan to bring in the darkness of error and falsehood. He blinds the minds of unbelieving men to prevent them from receiving the light of the gospel.
