Protest rocks Ibadan over Naira swap and hike in fuel price.
Activities at the Oyo State Secretariat were disrupted today February 3 as youths in the state staged a protest over the lingering scarcity of fuel and new naira notes.
The youths armed with dangerous weapons such as iron rods, stones, plastic chairs, and broken bottles, among others blocked a portion of the road linking Bodija to the Secretariat axis with burn fire. The protesters then forced their way into the state Secretariat and headed straight to the governor’s office where one Inspector of police who was on duty at the main entrance of the Governor’s office was injured.

Seven arrested as NDLEA intercepts illicit drugs concealed in deep freezers and cooking gas cylinders.
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a consignment of 11.90 kilograms of heroin and 500grams of skunk concealed in deep freezers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The deep freezers were part of a cargo that arrived from South Africa on Tuesday, March 7, onboard Ethiopian airline via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday, March 12, said the Agency’s sniffer dogs were deployed to locate where the illicit drugs were hidden in the cargo and in no time, they identified the cartons packed in the deep freezers.
“A total of four suspects that played active roles in the movement of the drugs and a truck driver have been arrested so far in connection with the seizure. They include: Dairo Quam; Oluwaseun Ogunmene; Adeleke Abdulrasaq; Bamidele Adewale and Oluwafemi Ogunmeru,” he said.

Nigeria’s President-Elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has described the certificate of return presented to him by INEC as a “World Cup” trophy.
Tinubu spoke during a visit to the palace of Rilwan Akinolu, oba of Lagos, on Sunday. Last week, INEC announced Tinubu, candidate of the APC as the winner of the presidential election conducted on February 25.
Speaking at the palace, Tinubu promised not to disappoint Nigerians. “To all the monarchies seated, may God provide you with strong health for you. God will not allow our country to perish.
We will not be used as a tool to disgrace you. I will not let you down,” he said. “The journey that we embarked upon and we have returned home with a certificate — it is like our own World Cup — and I thank you all for the effort.”

2023 Elections: PDP’s Agom-Jarigbe ends Gov. Ayade’s senatorial ambition in Cross River North.
Governor Ben Ayade has lost his bid to return to the Senate following his defeat by the incumbent senator representing Cross River North, Jarigbe Agom-Jarigbe.
Mr Ayade, who was in the Senate between 2011 and 2015, lost the National Assembly elections conducted on Saturday with 56,595 votes against Agom-Jarigbe’s of the PDP who scored 76,145 votes.
The returning officer, Emmanuel Emanghe, who spoke on behalf of INEC, announced the result for the polls around 3:05 a.m. on Monday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr Agom-Jarigbe, a two-time member of the House of Representatives, was elected into the Senate through a bye-election in September 2021 following the death of Rose Okoh.
Mr Ayade, who is serving out his two-term as governor of the state, sought to replace Mr Agom-Jarigbe as the Senator representing Northern senatorial district of Cross River.
