Everything that we do in the Christian life must be the result of gratitude to Jesus. Without gratitude, we will always struggle with obeying and serving Jesus in whatever area of our lives.
Focusing when reading or meditating on God's word is essential. The Bible has the power to transform our lives and shape our characters. However, this transformative process requires intentional reflection and application of its teachings. Focusing allows us to internalize, contemplate, and align our lives with the principles found in Scripture. The goal is not just reading the word of God but listening to God. How then do we read the word of God in order to hear the Lord?

The story of Jesus did not just begin on Christmas day. It began much earlier. In part, this is the reason why the Gospels of Matthew and Luke start with genealogies. Matthew, in particular, starts with an unusual genealogy. In Matthew 1:1-6, He mentions four women (most genealogies mention only men) whose stories are not as positive as we would expect. In fact, they may even be considered shameful. In our cancel culture today, these women can easily be disregarded or even ostracized. But the story of Jesus redeems all our stories, no matter how negative they might be.

Day 4 of RLCC Daily Devo: The Promise of Blessing
Scripture: Genesis 12:6-7
"Abram passed through the land to the place at Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, 'To your offspring I will give this land.' So he built there an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him."
Reflection:
As Abram journeyed, God reaffirmed His promise to bless him and his descendants with the land of Canaan. In response, Abram built an altar, acknowledging God's faithfulness and provision.
Application:
Even in the midst of uncertainty, we can trust in God's promises. Like Abram, we should acknowledge His faithfulness by building altars of gratitude in our hearts and lives, recognizing His blessings.
Prayer:
Dear God, thank You for Your promises of blessing. Help us to trust in Your faithfulness, especially when we face challenges and uncertainties. May we build altars of gratitude in our hearts, acknowledging Your goodness. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

The Implications of Our Justification | Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. 6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! 10 For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11 Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. (Romans 5:1-11)
Justification is not just a one-time event. It has profound personal implications in our lives. It affects us entirely. That's why we must also think of our justification as our salvation. Paul begins to expound on the rich implications of our justification, which is also our salvation, from chapters 5 to 8. Paul is not talking about something separate from our salvation, like our sanctification, for instance, as some theologians call it. He is still talking about salvation all throughout, even though he is detailing its implications.

25 I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in, 26 and in this way all Israel will be saved. As it is written: “The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob. 27 And this is my covenant with them when I take away their sins.” 28 As far as the gospel is concerned, they are enemies for your sake; but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on account of the patriarchs, 29 for God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable. 30 Just as you who were at one time disobedient to God have now received mercy as a result of their disobedience, 31 so they too have now become disobedient in order that they too may now receive mercy as a result of God’s mercy to you. 32 For God has bound everyone over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all. (Romans 11:25-32)
It's easy to get frustrated when we are trying to reach people for Christ. We are doing everything we can to win them but it seems like they continue to refuse the Gospel. This can easily lead to carnal attitudes on our part. We need to understand God's mysterious work in people's lives so that we will not give up. The Lord is working in ways that may not seem obvious to us. But He is still at work. We only need to trust in Him.

Main Idea: “We must trust God with humility that He is working mysteriously.” (“Dapat magtiwala sa Diyos nang may pagpapakumbaba na Siya ay gumagawa nang mahiwaga.”)
What is God doing mysteriously that we need to trust?
Two Mysterious Works
1. He is working in those who are hardened (25-27).
2. He is working in those who are disobedient (28-32).

8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” 15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. (Luke 2:8-20)
The term "Christian" is now used to distinguish a person who is not a "Catholic." But usually what it means is that person is no longer attending a "Catholic" Mass or is no longer doing what "Catholics" do (e.g. pray the rosary, pray to Mary or the saints, etc.). But, other than that, what is the true difference between the two? It has nothing to do with externals. In fact, it has nothing to do with labels. It has everything to do with how the Gospel has impacted their lives.

Main Idea: “When the Gospel impacts you, it changes you.” (“Kapag naapektuhan ka ng Ebanghelyo, binabago ka nito.”)
How do you verify the impact of the Gospel?
Three Changes In You
1. You are now recognizing Jesus as your Savior and Lord (vv.8-12).
2. You are now experiencing salvation by grace through faith (vv.13-14).
3. You are now testifying about Jesus wherever you go (vv.15-20).

God's Way of Living | By Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
Date: Oct 5, 2022
Text: Psalm 36:1-12
We all have the choice of how we are going to live. Most people choose their way rather than God's way. God's way is not hidden, of course, although we have to make an effort to find out. It is found in God's revelation, the Bible, through faith in Jesus Christ. But we won't know about it if we are not willing to humble ourselves to seek God's wisdom. More importantly, we need to know the reasons why God's way of living is better than our way.
