Uncommon flamingo sighting at the Vankalai bird sanctuary in Sri Lanka.
The greater flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) is the most widespread and largest species of the flamingo family. It is found in Africa, the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East, and southern Europe.
The greater flamingo resides in mudflats and shallow coastal lagoons with saltwater. Using its feet, the bird stirs up the mud, then sucks water through its bill and filters out small shrimp, seeds, blue-green algae, microscopic organisms, and mollusks.

A journey to watch the elephant paradise in Sri Lanka, it`s the well-known Minnariya National Park. We are lucky enough to see 100`s of elephants in a herd. Matriarchs, adults, young ones, babies, tuskers, the national park is mix bag for the visitors.
The interesting part is most of the elephants trying to attack us, and it is a rare thing to us. 7+ attacks and chases in a single day. Maybe it happens due to closed the parks because of covid - 19 situation.

Yala (යාල) National Park is the most visited and second largest national park in Sri Lanka, bordering the Indian Ocean. The park consists of five blocks. The park covers 979 square kilometers (378 sq mi) and is located about 300 kilometers (190 mi) from Colombo. Yala was designated as a wildlife sanctuary in 1900, and, along with Wilpattu was one of the first two national parks in Sri Lanka, having been designated in 1938. The park is best known for its variety of wild animals. It is important for the conservation of Sri Lankan elephants, Sri Lankan leopards, and aquatic birds.

? Galwila is a unique forest ecosystem in the dry zone of Sri Lanka. Established by the Forest Department. This park is in the Karuwalagaswewa area, between the Puttalam – Anuradhapura main road [A12] and next to the 22nd milepost. It is a dry zone forest system covering an area of 35,000 hectares.
Nearly 30 species of dry zone mammals including elephant, leopard, and deer have been identified in these forests, as well as a large number of rare species of birds including reptiles and amphibians, including owls, eagles, and white ibises. Different plant species also double or triple the beauty of the forest. The ecosystem has seven beautiful large boulders and the historical site of Vilandagoda which is of historical value associated with the legendary Saliya Ashokamala love story.
