The “Begriffsschrift” (German for, roughly, "concept-script") mentioned in this talk is a book on logic, published in 1879, by Gottlob Frege. “Die Grundlagen der Arithmetik” (“The Foundations of Arithmetic”) was published in 1884. In 1893, Frege published the first volume of the “Grundgesetze der Arithmetik” and in 1902, while preparing the proofs of the second volume of the “Grundgesetze,” he received, on June 16, a letter from Bertrand Russell, letting him know that the British philosopher and logician has found the possibility to derive a contradiction in the system he had developed in the first volume.
