Bulgarian artist Polina Gerasimova has given the gift of music to deaf and blind children with her new creation – a keyless musical instrument with vertical LED lights and a braille touchpad, meaning players can use the senses they have to create a melody.
Gerasimova has no musical background, and says that her lack of musical knowledge helped her to create this new medium. ‘I think not being a musician helped a lot. Because I started from the very beginning and taught myself how to make a rhythm,’ she explains.

There’s plenty more fish in the sea, but probably not of this size. This enormous Russell’s oarfish (that’s the name of the species, it doesn’t belong to someone named Russell) was spotted looking big and weird off the coast of Taiwan, and full of holes. The holes were likely caused by a shark attack, but we dread to think of the size of the shark that could take a bite out of the 2m long oarfish (that’s the size of 0.02 football fields).
Russell’s oarfish is known as the ‘harbinger of doom,’ appearing only rarely, often before major natural disasters. Many of the fish were seen in the run-up to the Great Tohoku Earthquake of 2011, while this one was merely sighted in the wake of Janet Yellen’s fungus-filled trip to China. Diving instructor Wang Cheng-Ru, who took these pictures, thinks that it came out to shallow waters to die. The fish, we mean, not Yellen.

Apparently it’s not just humans interested in politics. Luckily the safety net was there to stop these monkeys canvassing the leaders in person.

Days after Julian Assange turned 50 in prison, his longtime friend and supporter, Roger Waters, hailed him as a ‘knight in shining armor’ and attacked mainstream media for ignoring the campaign to free him.
The WikiLeaks founder notched up his half century in a cell at London’s Belmarsh prison, despite not being charged with any offense. The US government is seeking to extradite him on espionage charges that could land him a 175-year jail term.
Although an English judge ruled in January that he could not be extradited due to a suicide risk, Assange has not been granted bail.
‘I’ve sort-of run out of expletives for these a**holes who have imprisoned Julian Assange,’ the former Pink Floyd frontman told RT on Tuesday. ‘...
Julian Assange is a publisher who has committed no crime… the powers that be have deaf ears to his predicament [and seem happy to keep him] under lock and key until he dies.’
Assange’s birthday saw protesters in the UK and US take to the streets – and a river – demanding his release. Demonstrators in London sailed a boat past the Houses of Parliament bearing a large banner that read ‘FREE ASSANGE.’
Waters said that the growing pro-Assange movement is being ignored by mainstream media.
‘Where are all the journalists who should be in the streets demonstrating?’ he asked. ‘Nowhere to be seen. Unfortunately, the mainstream media is cowed by the ruling class and the powers that be.’
‘Julian Assange is our knight in shining armor,’ he later added. ‘This is the man who almost single-handedly has started the movement that might save the world. There should be statues being built to this man in Parliament Square.’
