Since we had a lot of travelling and adventuring to do, why not take a while, relax on the beach and enjoy some grilled seafood :)
I used to create pixel art day after day, but never came around to master it, despite my passion for this style.
I really love this aesthetic of abstract worlds and characters. It depicts a lot but also leaves so much to your own imagination. It really never seemed obsolete to me.
I am glad that after a while of being shamed as old and useless, it now stands strong as an alternative to hyper realistic ambitions.
Please note: I am not taking side for any style. All of it has its own specific value and I love all of it :)
Follow me on the creation of a vector art based skater character :)
Further notes:
Since I created a lot of pixel stuff lately I wanted to present some of my vector art skills also and dive from environments over to characters. This will be a series of cute stylized characters inspired by japanese chibi art.
The characters will all share the same basic template I worked on in this video but differ in hairstyle, clothing, and animation. This way a clean style is assured whilest a great amount of different character types can be established quite efficiently.
I hope you enjoy!

After visiting the countryside in the first video of this series we will take a shopping trip to the city. Seems like there are enough empty parking lots for our cars :)

This is a new series of making-ofs relating to trading card designs.
I am very interested in the creation of card games and played the more complex of them quite often when I was younger ;)
Games like Magic the Gathering, not only have a very interesting and fun game design, but in most cases also come with inspiring art. Be it a beautiful frame or of course amazing character or environmental illustrations.
Here I am focusing on the framing of the cards, not the illustrations.
However conceptual illustrations from other amazing artists are utilized for usage demonstration.

Join me on this kick-off to the new series called "Observing Style" I present on my channel. On this collection of videos I will try to analyze popular art from games I have a personal connection with as a gamer and also try to understand their direction on style whilst creating imaginary add-on assets for them.

The fourth video of this series and a rainy day inspired me to create this quirky little guy. Earthworms are funny creatures and they mostly dig up stuff so the thought was to cross one of them with a mine worker concept and let it sit in a robo-suit for strength improvements. Before you think too much: Yes! It is inspired a little by Earthworm Jim ;) Enjoy :)
Background Information:
I studied some 90s jump and run games and generally discovered they work with a few fixed themes like humanized animals, living objects or emotional machines.
So I thought it would be a good idea to create a series based on one of those conceptual work flows. Designing Characters becomes a lot easier when you know what ways there are to come up with ideas.
I mean you basically think of an animal, make it stand up instead of crawling or swimming, think about the environments they exist in and what kind of humans share these realms alongside them. In the end the results are born by crossing those facts and picking an illustration style.
It is fascinating work, I love it and I hope you enjoy watching the process!

Staying with the darker theme and got heavily inspired by Castlevania SotN. I always loved the dark romantic settings, especially of the later games in the series, so I tried my hand at a cathedral themed tileset. Let's build the vampires some home! :)
Note:
I create these tilesets mostly as quick studies and focus on base structures. I am aware they might seem a little empty because of that, however that's the nature of a "clean" base. It is just setting the stage for characters and objects to breath more live into the scene. So I hope you understand. Stay creative and enjoy :)
