Great Expectations | By Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
Date: Oct 13, 2022
Text: Psalm 40:11-17
Hope is the confident expectation of future good. But our hope in the Lord is not just a general expectation. It is a "great" expectation of what God would do because of who He is. Our knowledge of God borne out of our experience of Him in the past based on His promises in His word gives us hope to expect "great things" from the Lord.

Central Idea: “Those who wait upon the Lord have great expectations.” (“Yaong mga naghihintay sa Panginoon ay may malaking inaasahan.”)
What can we expect from the Lord?
Three Great Expectations
1. The manifestation of His love and faithfulness (vv.11-13).
2. The vindication of His name and honor (vv.14-16).
3. The revelation of His help and deliverance (v.17).

The Need for Better Leaders | By Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
1 I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a deacon of the church in Cenchreae. 2 I ask you to receive her in the Lord in a way worthy of his people and to give her any help she may need from you, for she has been the benefactor of many people, including me. 3 Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my co-workers in Christ Jesus. 4 They risked their lives for me. Not only I but all the churches of the Gentiles are grateful to them. 5 Greet also the church that meets at their house. Greet my dear friend Epenetus, who was the first convert to Christ in the province of Asia. 6 Greet Mary, who worked very hard for you. 7 Greet Andronicus and Junia, my fellow Jews who have been in prison with me. They are outstanding among the apostles, and they were in Christ before I was. 8 Greet Ampliatus, my dear friend in the Lord. 9 Greet Urbanus, our co-worker in Christ, and my dear friend Stachys. 10 Greet Apelles, whose fidelity to Christ has stood the test. Greet those who belong to the household of Aristobulus. 11 Greet Herodion, my fellow Jew. Greet those in the household of Narcissus who are in the Lord. 12 Greet Tryphena and Tryphosa, those women who work hard in the Lord. Greet my dear friend Persis, another woman who has worked very hard in the Lord. 13 Greet Rufus, chosen in the Lord, and his mother, who has been a mother to me, too. 14 Greet Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas and the other brothers and sisters with them. 15 Greet Philologus, Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas and all the Lord’s people who are with them. (Romans 16:1-15)
There is a crisis of leadership in the church today. Because of the nature of the church, we need better leaders. Unfortunately, not everyone is willing to step forward to become better leaders. Without better leadership, churches suffer. Ministries are not done well. Small groups do not function as they should. People's needs are not met. The lost are not found.

Practicing Communityship | By Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. 17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:9-21)
The first sign of true worship is communityship. When we begin to identify ourselves as part of a Christian community and we begin to use our gifts to strengthen the community, true worship is manifested. However, once we are part of a Christian community, we need to pursue the dynamics necessary to continue being part of it. We cannot leave it to chance. We need to practice communityship.

Injustice is everywhere. We must confront it whenever we can. But sometimes, as believers, we suffer simply because we are following Christ. This is another form of injustice. But how do we respond during such times? Christ Himself shows us how.

"Open Doors" are exciting opportunities to experience more of God's presence, power, and purpose. They can also be challenging and sometimes even confusing. That's why you need to seek God's guidance all throughout the experience, from beginning to end. But what if you actually miss an "Open Door" to begin with? What if you actually said "No!" to God? What do you do?

7 The Lord reigns forever; he has established his throne for judgment. 8 He rules the world in righteousness and judges the peoples with equity. 9 The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. 10 Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. 11 Sing the praises of the Lord, enthroned in Zion; proclaim among the nations what he has done. 12 For he who avenges blood remembers; he does not ignore the cries of the afflicted. (Psalm 9:7-12)
There are many things to be afraid of in this world. There are dangers all around. Sometimes, we just imagine certain unwanted things that can happen and we are afraid. Where can we hide in times of fear and anxiety? Children usually ran to their parents. They hide behind their parents' back because they know they will be protected. For us, we ran to the Lord. He is the safest hiding place for those who believe.

Main Idea: “The Lord is the safest hiding place for those who believe.” (“Ang Panginoon ang pinakaligtas na lugar para magtago ang mga mananampalataya.”)
Why is the Lord the safest hiding place?
Three reasons
1. He will never condemn us (vv.7-8).
2. He will never forsake us (vv.9-10).
3. He will never ignore us (vv.11-12)

(For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm of David.) 1 Answer me when I call to you, my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer. 2 How long will you people turn my glory into shame? How long will you love delusions and seek false gods? 3 Know that the Lord has set apart his faithful servant for himself; the Lord hears when I call to him. 4 Tremble and do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent. 5 Offer the sacrifices of the righteous and trust in the Lord. 6 Many, Lord, are asking, “Who will bring us prosperity?” Let the light of your face shine on us. 7 Fill my heart with joy when their grain and new wine abound. 8 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety. (Psalm 4:1-8)
Every now and then we will meet difficult people. For various reasons, they tend to give us a lot of stress. How we wish they would go away! But, sometimes, these types of people are living with us, or vice-versa, and that creates even more stress. How do we deal with difficult people, especially when we cannot get rid of them or we cannot get out of that situation?

Four Prayer Items
1. Ask God for relief (vv.1-3).
2. Ask God for rescue (vv.4-5).
3. Ask God for renewal (vv.6-7).
4. Ask God for rest (v.8).
