A woman once branded "Australia's worst female serial killer" has been pardoned after new evidence suggested she did not kill her four infant children. Kathleen Folbigg spent 20 years behind bars after her then husband provided her diary to police and a court found that she had murdered three of her children and committed manslaughter against the fourth. On 5 June 2023, she was released from prison after an inquiry inter her case heard that medical evidence had been ignored and a medical examiner had a conflict of interest. The matter will still need to be referred to the Court of Appeal to have her convictions vacated, but for the first time in 20 years, a grieving mother is tasting fresh air.
