What is your Sabbath like? I assume it’s on Sundays. But here’s what usually happens: staying up late on Saturday night, watching TV or going to a party, overeating and possibly drinking too much. Then waking up in a rush on Sunday morning to go to church, if you go at all. After church, you go shopping, watch a game on TV, do chores around the house or in the yard, maybe catch up on emails, plan for the week, meal prep, do homework, or whatever needs to be done. Another movie at night and then off to bed. I apologize, but that does not sound like a true Sabbath which involves genuine worship.
20 Looking at his disciples, he said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. 21 Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. 22 Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man. 23 “Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets. 24 “But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort. 25 Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will go hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep. 26 Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you, for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets. (Luke 6:20-26)
Some people think that becoming a Christian is a big mistake. They imagine a person doing so and losing a lot of things as a result. They cannot enjoy life anymore. They will be limited by a lot of rules and regulations, resulting in a life of unhappiness. But such is not the description of Jesus for those who choose to follow Him. Even though they will suffer, they will still be blessed. In other words, when we consider the consequences of such a decision, it is still better to follow and suffer for Christ than not to do so.

Main Idea: It's still better to follow and suffer for Christ. (Mas maganda pa rin ang sumunod at magdusa para kay Cristo.)
Why is it better to follow and suffer for Christ?
Three Reasons
1. We are considered blessed now (vv.20-22).
2. We can expect a future reward (v.23).
3. We will be saved from future judgment (vv.24-26).

Principles of Pious Parenting | By Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
21 On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived. 22 When the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord”), 24 and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: “a pair of doves or two young pigeons.” ...39 When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth. 40 And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him.(Luke 2:21-24, 39-40)
It's not easy to be a parent these days. One difficult challenge is the scarcity of time. We don't have the time to parent our children well, and we feel guilty about it. We delegate this task to the school or the church, but we know it's not enough. Children are growing up without a moral compass because parents are seldom present to mentor or guide them. Add the influence of media and technology, and the results are not surprising. We need to learn the principles of pious parenting.

It is a challenge to talk about religion and politics because these topics are often very sensitive and can be controversial. People often have very strong opinions about religion and politics and are not willing to compromise or see things from different perspectives. This can lead to heated debates and disagreements that can be difficult to navigate or negotiate. But it's always helpful to know what Jesus taught about politics. Perhaps, He alone can bring about the right balance to resolve the disagreements.

Authentic Prayers | By Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
1 I love you, Lord, my strength. 2 The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 3 I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I have been saved from my enemies. 4 The cords of death entangled me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me. 5 The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me. In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears. (Psalm 18:1-6)
Prayer is the privilege that God has given us so that we can communicate with Him at any time. If you think about it, it is indeed an awesome privilege. But sometimes people don't appreciate this privilege. They take it for granted. If ever they do pray, it is often very shallow, routine, and sometimes insincere. How can we respond to this awesome privilege in a way that glorifies God? We must learn how to pray authentic prayers.

Spiritual discernment helps us to understand the meaning and significance of events, experiences, and encounters. Noticing and evaluating our emotional responses to them are the building blocks of true spiritual discernment. This helps us in making decisions, solving problems, and navigating difficult situations. Taking the time to discern the convergence between them helps us to identify patterns, recognize God's leading, and draw meaningful conclusions toward a more faithful response.

When Evil People Hurt You | By Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
Date: Nov 2, 2022
Text: Psalm 52:1-9
Sometimes evil people will hurt you personally. They will do wrong things either to you or to the people you love, and it will hurt you badly. How do you respond? It's tempting to hurt them back, to make them suffer for what they have done.

Acts 2:14-41 gives us a record of the first evangelistic sermon in the Book of Acts. Based on the amount of space that Luke devotes for this sermon, we can assume that he intended it to be a model for us in proclaiming the Gospel.

Experiences that Purify Us | By Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
Date: Oct 4, 2022
Text: Psalm 35:1-28
We are often unaware of the things that need to be transformed in us. Although we are aware of some of our faults, we are not fully aware of the extent of our sinfulness which hinders us from loving God and others the way the Lord wants us to. This is the reason why God allows specific experiences to come upon us to purify us. At first, we may resent them or question God for allowing such things to happen. But if we trust God, knowing He loves us, we must be willing to let God purify us.
