March 13, 2011. This was a fun day. Iowa Interstate's ES44ac in Rock Island colors was pullin' a coal consist from Peoria, IL to Cedar Rapids, IA. This is unusual since the 513 usually runs the Council Bluffs, IA to Blue Island, IL (Chicago) route, CB-BI. It was nice to see the Rock Island colors on the Peoria Rocket again! The video starts with 513 crossing at a private-secluded-dirt-grade crossing on Illinois Highway 29 coming from Peoria. It then passes the Hennepin crossing. Next its switches from the Peoria sub. to the CB-BI mainline at Bureau Junction, IL. Note the paparazzi of the rail-fan world standing on the tracks at the crossing (and quickly stepping off the tracks as 513 approaches). Next it's on to a spot just a few hundred yards from Bureau Junction. As 513 slowly passes hoppers sitting on a siding, note the engineer opens his window and gives me a wave :). At this point I begin my chase and pace of the beautiful 513. The next view is another private-secluded spot... sorry folks, I keep this one quiet from the paparazzi! Then it's off to a grade-crossing on Illinois Highway 40 just north of Buda, Illinois. From there the pace is on. I followed 513 along U.S. Highway 6 to Annawan, IL. I've posted this part of the video in it's entirety elsewhere on Youtube! As I approached Annawan, Illinois- I am slowed by having to stop at a stop sign just before the crossing- so I missed the train at the crossing. Except for the poor lighting conditions for filming because of a mostly broken sky of clouds this was otherwise a fun day- a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!!! ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaLeQwlfkQw
