Join my FREE Pro7 quick start course (updated for pro7.8 and newer). Just go to TDM.fyi/pro7quick to signup and get your own login. If you want something more advanced, get more training for your whole team at ChurchTechU.com. == Generally speaking when something happens in Pro7, it's for very specific reasons. So, it might SEEM like your underline, for example, is turning a different color for no reason, but there is a reason AND a way around it.
Starting at 11a eastern, I'm showing you how to change the underline color AND why it's not the color you expected it to be.

When it comes to video there are three types of editing. In-camera, linear, and non-linear editing each have their strengths. I first started editing using a linear editor over a decade ago. That's not exactly true. I edited a video using a video toaster, but didn't really know what I was doing. For a class, I used an introductory system called "Avid Cinema" which output kind of ugly video using a scan converter and a vcr. Between that time and when I started using Final Cut, I learned to used a linear editor.
It was controlled by a computer, but at its heart, the system was three VTRs (professional video tape recorders). I could cut between two video tapes, a character generator, and record onto another tape. There was no capturing or transferring of video to a computer. The computer and the attached keyboard were just the control mechanism. It used a video switcher to do the transitions. If you wanted to just create titles on the beginning of a video, it was a quick way to do it.
The downside was that each time you changed something you copied from one tape to another. With digital, that doesn't matter, but with analog tapes, it could get bad quickly.
If you have a camera, you can do what's called in-camera editing. Saying it is simple, but doing it is hard. You just choose what you want to record and think, while you're shooting, about the story. If you're shooting a birthday party, you want to shoot the games, shoot the cake, shoot the candles being blown out, shoot the presents being opened, etc. Remember the end of the previous shot when you start the next one so that you can avoid breaking the 180 rule (more about that later) and vary the shots enough to not have a jump cut.

Every video ever made goes through three distinct phases in its life. No, not relevance, irrelevance, and obscurity. Many videos never make it out of obscurity and some seem to be perpetually relevant. Nope, I'm talking about the stages of production, but you knew that from the title of today's lesson, because you're smart. Don't argue. I think it's true, so just say "thank you" and we can move on. You're welcome.
These stages are preproduction, production, and postproduction. If it's easier to think about it this way you could use the words planning, creating, and editing. That's the short form of what each step involves, but it's more than just that.

http://trinitydigitalmedia.com What I'm Learning about Google+
I wrote the book (literally) about Twitter for Churches, so I think I get it. FaceBook is all about people you already know, but how do you meet new people? Google+ is the best of both worlds, with both better conversations and the ability to meet new people. We'll talk more about it in this episode.

http://TrinityDigitalMedia.com/church-tech 5 reasons you might not be podcasting (even though you think you are)
1. You only upload to YouTube or Vimeo.
2. You upload wav or aiff files.
3. You export videos that aren't using the H.264 codec (and don't transcode into ones that are).
4. You think you upload your show directly to iTunes.
5. You don't know what an RSS feed is, how to get it (or you've never tested it).

http://trinitydigitalmedia.com/church-tech For some reason, the video lost sync. I'll try and fix it later, but since I"m going out of town soon, here's the raw version.
This week's questions:
JS
Have you talked about website backgrounds yet?
BB (on Church Technical Leaders)
[W]hy would our leaders want to take space away from our current building and dedicate it for a control room? What would be in it for our leaders to do this? I know that we would be able to stand and better communicate with each other but is this the only reason?

ProPresenter 5 Tutorials: A lyric video and stage display lyrics at the same time | ChurchTechCast.com Screencast show
Are you being held back from creating dynamic lyric videos by the fact that you can't figure out how to send lyrics to the stage display without having them show on the main screen? Take a look at today's lesson which combines two of my favorite trick: transparent background videos and advancing the stage display only.

"Tweeting Church" is my new book all about using twitter in the church.
Transcript:
Hi, I'm Paul Clifford, author of Podcasting Church and now Tweeting Church, available in both Paperback and ebook. I firmly believe that we've been given the gift of living in a time where communication is easier than ever before.
We live in a time marked by change. Electronic communications enable any message to reach virtually any person in virtually any part of the world. In this world, how can something originally written so long ago compete? Is the message that was originally called "Good News" still as relevant in the age of electrons as it was in the time of papyrus?
