The Creator made the Sabbath for multiple functions: it is a day of instruction, it is a prophetic shadow of things passed, and things yet to come, and it is a sign of recognition between the Most High God and the people He is working with.
The binding of Satan in the bottomless pit is pictured in the Leviticus 16 ritual of casting the Azazel goat into the wilderness. He is the strong man who must be bound before his house may be plundered.

In the present age Satan has been allowed access to humanity. He has used that access to undermine and interfere with human being's development into fully spirit born children of God. Humans are guilty of allowing Satan's influence to lead them into disobedience towards God... but Satan' guilt is unique... it is not shared with any other... no one led him astray... His rebellion against God was of his own imagination.
When Jesus Christ returns to administer the rule of God on earth His first executive action is to depose Satan and confine him so that he has no ability to access or influence humanity for 1,000 years. The source of deception and evil thinking will be removed and the earth will experience what it is like to live without Satan for that 1,000 years.
That removal of Satan is pictured by the 5th biblical festival, the Day of Atonement.
Leviticus 16:20-22 On the day of Atonement the Azazel goat is cast out into the wilderness carrying the sins of the nation of Israel on its head... this is a prophecy of a future moment in history when Satan will be seized by the angelic servants of God, bound, cast into a bottomless pit, and sealed in Isaiah 27:1.
Satan’s role in introducing sin into our world will be addressed. The strong man will be bound.

The Word who was God and was with God became flesh and blood and lived like one of us. But how can a God become a human being?
Many people stumble and become confused about the person and life of Jesus. “Was he a real human being just like us… or was he a human being with incredible super powers?” Or “when He was a human being, was He still God?”

Hebrews 5:7-9 Jesus lived to show what is possible for human being. He demonstrated the entire process of salvation as a human being, birth, life, death… and being saved from death through resurrection to an incorruptible body composed of spirit power.

Where Does This Common Knowledge Come From?
Romans 1:18-21, 2:14-16 some moral awareness comes from the nature of the creation. Certain forces, laws, order are baked into the physical which we all share. A degree of moral truth is equally available to Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, and Christians. All share in a common body of moral awareness.
2 Corinthians 1:12-14 additional aspects of moral understanding and awareness are known through the revelation of our Creator. This happens on two levels:
through His written word which is available to anyone [through preaching or print]
through His spirit which is restricted to those whom God chooses to give it
Some of what informs the conscience is available through observation. The most important set of information comes from the revelation of our Creator.

Was Elijah really taken up into heaven? How should we understand this bible verse compared to other bible verses that tell us no man has ascended to heaven. Elijah's ride in a fiery chariot is a dramatic portrayal of the transfer of the prophetic office from Elijah to Elisha.

A Scripturally Driven Conclusion
Elijah was relieved of his responsibilities and taken away in a chariot of fire so Elisha could take over. He was simply removed from where the action was. He is not to the "3rd heaven" beyond the material realm. He was taken up in a whirlwind to some unknown place in the land. That is how Elijah could send a letter to king Jehoram years after he had been removed from the area... he was still on earth.

These blessed attitudes are rejected by this world and if not outright rejected held in low esteem as foolish and weak. But they are the way to true blessings and joy.

The book of Habakkuk teaches us throughout that the just will live by faith... one of the most important biblical principles is found in this ancient prophetic book. Truly, the righteous shall live by faith!
Habakkuk cries out "how long o Lord". Habakkuk sees the decay and decline of his beloved Judah. He has been praying to God to intervene... but nothing is happening... God is not punishing the evil doers... and Habakkuk asks "how long until you act"?
God is going to help Habakkuk understand by giving him a big picture view of God’s plan for dealing with the nations like babylon. Having this long range view builds faith… it gives meaning and purpose to human experience, human suffering, and human history. So, knowing the big picture [and the scripture that backs it up] is worth your attention.
The righteous will live by faith!

The message of the prophet Haggai speaks to the living spiritual temple of God as much as the old Jerusalem Temple. The spiritual temple of God is alive and well in the 21st century. Living stones are still added daily to the foundation stone which is Christ.
The cornerstone and foundation is Christ and the members of God's Church are built up into a spiritual temple as living stones 1 Peter 2:4-5.
This understanding allows us to see the instructions and history of the physical temple in Jerusalem as having meaning and application for us today. The message of Haggai to the people tasked with rebuilding the temple in 520 B.C. is filled with inspiration and warnings. Those inspiring and warning words offer us much needed course correction and guidance.
Living stones are still being added to God’s new covenant temple. God still calls, chooses, and transforms people. We still have work to do in preparing a people for the day Christ returns.
Haggais message is a message of restoration and rebuilding. The full and complete restoration will come and it will begin with the return of Christ in power and glory. For it says "in that day" the kingdoms, governments, armies of humanity separated from God will be brushed aside and replaced by coming king of kings, and Lord of Lords.
Glory will be revealed… Peace will be administered through righteous rule with Christ as king of kings, and those who are Christ’s at His return seated at His right had as kings and priests.
The very people… who are now the little flock… who are being restored and rebuilt and prepared for the coming of the King.
The parable of Lazarus and the rich man is actually a story that fits squarely and comfortably within the resurrection sequence we find in Revelation 20:4-5 and multiple other places in scripture.
Watch and listen to this message as we walk through the parable of Lazarus and the rich man and use the symbols and key words found in it to tie back to other key verses to get a full bible based teaching on what happens after death.
Change Your Paradigm
What you see is greatly affected by what you expect to see. What you expect to see can be greatly influenced by what you are told to expect.
So… let me tell you what to expect in the parable:
1️⃣ The rich man is like the Pharisees enjoying their wealth and the praise of others for their righteousness. Lazarus is like the followers of Christ who build character through what they suffer and are despised. Both of them, rich and poor alike, die in the flesh.
2️⃣ The believer [Lazarus] is gathered together among those who are Christ's at His return and participate in the inheritance promised to the faithful, eternal life in the family of God
3️⃣ The rich man is resurrected to physical life after the 1,000 year rule of Christ. He is very distressed to learn he is now under the judgment of God and could end up in the lake of fire.
4️⃣ Scripture warns you of this in advance and shows you what to do in this life to affect your circumstances after death.
That’s the biblical paradigm to have in mind when you read the parable.
Read it with this frame of reference and the parable of Lazarus and the rich man will not be a confusing conundrum but a powerful warning and call to action.
