Adherents of Augustinian philosophy embrace the concept known as Original Sin. That is, that since Adam's sin in Eden, all mankind is now born with their flesh, will, mind and soul stained by sin.
This creates serious problems when applied to the incarnation of Jesus Christ. In Hebrews 2:14-18 we read that Jesus came in our flesh and blood, like us in EVERY respect.
"Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the SAME THINGS, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in EVERY RESPECT, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted." Hebrews 2:14-18
So, if we are born with our flesh, will, soul and mind stained by sin - and Jesus came like us in every respect, then Jesus would be just as sinful. Which corrupts the incarnation and denies His role as the Spotless Redeemer who knew no sin.
Augustinians often seek to Move the Goalposts, and redefine our nature to include things like drinking frappuccinos, our ethnicity or something other than our flesh, will, soul and mind. This is known as the Starbucks Fallacy.

Calvinism is a 500 year old systematic theology rooted in John Calvin's understanding and affirmation of Augustinian philosophy. Augustine merged Manichaean gnosticism and Greek philosophy with Christian terms and themes, obfuscating the Gospel and Truth. It is false and in opposition to Scripture... but since Calvinists have historically held bearded men in high esteem, we figured this would break the news to them in a way they might choose to accept.

Both Roman Catholicism and Reformed Protestantism stand on the foundation of Augustinian anthropology and philosophy. So who was Augustine, what did he believe and why did he have a pet hippo?
Augustine was a former Manichean convert to Christianity. Regrettably, he let his his former Manichean beliefs influence his understanding of Scripture, filtering it through his neo-Platonist philosophical commitment. He built upon pre-existing errors, tweaking and repackaging them into what would come to be known as the doctrine of Original Sin.
A summary of some of his more outlandish beliefs:
1. Unbaptized infants go to hell due to Adam's sin, but it isn't as hot for them as it is for adults; though some baptized infants also go to hell.
2. Being intimate with your wife for pleasure is worse than with a "lady of the night".
3. The use of violence to force conversion to Christianity is acceptable.
4. The use of contraception in marriage is adultery.
5. Only those trained in the sciences approved by Augustine should be allowed to teach theology.

In this, our 9th Episode responding to claims Mike Winger has made regarding Penal Substitution, we consider PSA's Pagan parallels.
Mike has argued that Penal Substitutionary Atonement (PSA) isn't like pagan human sacrifice, as the victim (Jesus) goes willingly. However, here we point out this is actually common among pagan human sacrificial systems. We also explore the parallels in more detail, noting the problems with the claims Mike Winger made.

With respect to Mike, despite his claims that is it our side engaging in historical revisionism & an anachronistic handling of the materials, we believe he is guilty of this very thing.
