This famous fairy tale is a fable from Aesop’s fables, written around the 6th century in ancient Greece.
The story concerns a Hare who ridicules a slow-moving Tortoise. Tired of the Hare's arrogant behavior, the Tortoise challenges him to a race. The hare soon leaves the tortoise behind and, confident of winning, takes a nap midway through the race.
When the Hare awakes, however, he finds that his competitor, crawling slowly but steadily, has arrived before him.
? TORTOISE VS THE HARE ?
Let’s compare these two.
?THE HARE ?
The hare is all over there place, easily distracted, hopping from task to task. No direction, no focus, constantly giving in to instant gratification and new external stimuli, looking around how other people will perceive him.
And he is overconfident that it will be an easy win. He can just sprint and then it’s almost over.
This is how most people spend their time.
Being busy, but not productive. Being everywhere and nowhere at the same time. They are wasting time. Giving up too soon.
Not willing to make sacrifices in the present moment.
No direction. No goals. No priorities. Gathering no momentum or making progress. They are in it for the short-term pleasure.
Now let’s take a look at the tortoise.
?THE TORTOISE ?
The tortoise is focusing on the direction he is going on.
He is moving forward consistently, diligently and patiently. He doesn’t care about what other people think of him. He knows it’s going to take time. He is confident in the process.
He is only focusing one task at a time.
Without distractions and interruptions.
He is willing to sacrifice and delay gratification for a long-term meaningful goal.
Slow and steady he is moving forward, with small steps taken consistently, knowing that that will lead him to his goal.
? SO WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THIS RACE ABOUT PRODUCTIVITY? ?
Don’t be overconfident that once you start the race will soon be over.
Set out a goal, go for it forthrightly and take small steps consistently. Slow and steady wins the race. You don’t want to run a marathon like a sprinter.
We are in it for many races to develop a meaningful mindset, not just one fast-paced race, even if you make it to the finish line, you’ll often be exhausted to start the next project. It’s all about the mindset, patience, diligence, and perseverance.
This is how truly productive people work. Working single-mindedly with a clear focus and priorities, steadily moving towards their goal.
If it’s a small task and you can do it with a sprint that’s fine. If you sprint, be sure you don’t use up all your energy

Goals are a good starting point but not an endpoint.
Goals:
⚫ are temporary.
⚫ have a specific end time.
⚫ are always in the future.
⚫ aren’t sustainable.
A goal postpones fulfillment daily fulfillment and satisfaction and focuses on the result, not the journey or process.
While a goal is a specific objective that you achieve in the future, a habit is something you do on a regular basis; it doesn’t end on a specific time. If you do something every day, it’s a habit, if you do something in the future, it’s a goal. For example, losing twenty pounds is a goal, but eating right is a habit. Running a marathon under four hours is a goal; exercising daily is a habit.
When you take the right, consistent actions, every day, your desired outcome will become inevitable, because implementing habits will make them part of your lifestyle and identity. It becomes integrated into your life.
So instead of focusing on goals, focus on turning those goals into manageable habits that you can implement on a daily basis. Put milestones, not finish lines. The goal is sustainable self-development, not intermittent bursts of drastic action like new year’s resolutions.
Finish lines are not a good way to form a habit.It’s better to go for milestones instead of finish lines, because with finish lines, once you’re finished it’s ended.
Focus on a specific behavior, a specific task that you do regularly, preferably daily, not a result that can be achieved in multiple ways. The focus is on performing a specific action and success is measured solely by whether or not you follow through with that action every day until it becomes established behavior. Success is defined if you do that action every day until it becomes established.
That way you also have small victories each day an celebrate little success instead of postponing fulfillment and gratification to a long-term specific time.
Start focusing on a process-oriented approach (habits) instead of goals (result-oriented approach) and you ‘ll have much more long-lasting success.

Our behavior is stitched into the environment. Our identity is linked to the things we surround ourselves with and that sometimes reminds us of an identity that we don’t want anymore.
So when you go to a neutral place, you allow yourself to try out something new. You can start with a clean slate.
So after a certain time, event or place or any other significant event it can be a trigger to start something new.
That’s also why moments of transitions are a great place to start anew and start picking up good habits and dropping bad habits. That’s why travel can. You can try out new behavior and discover new aspects of yourself.
These significant events can be a trigger to instigate a new way of behavior.
I like to use the beginning of the new year and my birthday as significant events to stop doing or start doing something. Traveling and being in a new country can also be a great incentive to try out something different.

We always think in a Newtonian way where a cause precedes an effect. But we humans have the amazing gift of being able to imagine and visualize. What would the best version of ourselves look like in the future?
There is something which is called ‘teleological causation’ where we visualize an effect and it can create causes. There is a technique called ‘futuring’.
If we visualize and imagine what the best version of ourselves would be in the future, what behaviour would we portray? What values and what habits would we have and which person would we want to be?
Got it?
Now trace it back to now .. What would we have to do now to ensure that we would become that person? What causes would we have to create to make that outcome inevitable?
Instead of waiting for a cause to be that person, envision the future where you already are that person and then trace it back to now, see what small steps you have to make now consistently to become that better person of yourself?
Imagine you being that better version .. what small steps could you start doing starting from today?
