Last summer I got a call from the Canadian Coast Guard to help them with a pest issue. Ants! Thousands of them had taken up residence in the electrical components of the nautical communications equipment and had caused a disruption of service. This meant that seafarers in the area were in potential trouble due to the outage. I was on call that weekend and made the 8 hour drive. 4 hours to the location to bait and spray the living hell out of these critters and 4 hours home. It was a great day for a drive! The Coast Guard is not one of our clients and I was the only one willing to make the trip out of all those called that day. If I recall correctly, 4 companies were called. I was setting up in the yard for a day with my children when I noticed the call on my phone. I did not have to return it and would rather spend one of the few days I have left with my family. The time we have with family cannot be replaced by anything. It was the right thing to do and communications suffered no further issues.
