In a shocking twist, it is revealed that Shang Tsung and Quan Chi have been manipulated by another being into trying to conquer the timelines posing as Damashi. But in reality, it was the original timeline's Shang Tsung who explains that there are in fact two timelines created when he and Firegod Liu Kang battled: one where Liu Kang won and another where Shang Tsung won and became a Titan. And now he wants to destroy every timeline, angered by being fooled.

While not exactly good, Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, and the rest of the villains agree to join forces to battle a common threat.
