Biblical fasting involves more than just refraining from food. It goes beyond dedicating ourselves to God, seeking holiness, and praying with greater intensity. Fasting is also a means for us to demonstrate solidarity with those who are in need. It is not merely about giving up something we enjoy, such as food, but also about redirecting the resources we would typically use for our own enjoyment towards helping those who are in need.

33 They said to him, “John’s disciples often fast and pray, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours go on eating and drinking.” 34 Jesus answered, “Can you make the friends of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? 35 But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; in those days they will fast.” 36 He told them this parable: “No one tears a piece out of a new garment to patch an old one. Otherwise, they will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old. 37 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. 38 No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins. 39 And no one after drinking old wine wants the new, for they say, ‘The old is better.’” (Luke 5:33-39)
Some people think that being a Christian is simply about being more religious. Unlike before when we were not very much concerned about prayer, worship, or the Bible, now we are more concerned about such things. But this is a shallow understanding of what it means to be a Christian. We are not simply going back to what we have neglected in the past. We are living a new life in Christ as His disciples. We need to understand what being a true disciple of Christ is all about.

Main Idea: “Being a true disciple of Christ is different from being religious.” (“Ang pagiging tunay na alagad ni Cristo ay kakaiba sa pagiging relihiyoso.”)
How is being a true disciple of Christ different from being religious?
Three Ways
1. Our focus is now on the Person and Presence of Christ (vv.33-35).
2. Our focus is now on the Good News of the Kingdom of God (vv.36-37).
3. Our focus is now on the New Creation and Transformation (vv.38-39).

Renewing Your Love for the Lost | By Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
Date: Oct 21, 2022
Text: Luke 15:11-32
Some of you used to be passionate about reaching out to the lost. For some reason, you are no longer as passionate as you used to be. There are many possible reasons why. We don't want to get into that. But what is important now is to ask ourselves: "How can our love for the lost be renewed?"

When we try to go deeper in our walk with Christ, the enemy also tries his best to deceive us. How can we tell when this is happening?

It's important to understand why Jesus died on the cross. Failure to understand that will result in our failure to believe in Him in order to be saved.

War of the Worlds | Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
We have an invisible enemy working behind our visible reality. That visible reality is called the "world" in the Scriptures. This does not refer to the beautiful world that we live in (e.g. the mountains, the sky, the seas, etc.). It refers to the systems and philosophies of the world. We must understand the nature of "this" world as the Bible describes it so that we can understand also why we struggle in taking care of our souls and the souls of others.

1 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; 2 for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters. 3 Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? 4 The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. 5 They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Savior. 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob. 7 Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 8 Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. 9 Lift up your heads, you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 10 Who is he, this King of glory? The Lord Almighty — He is the King of glory. (Psalm 24:1-10)
At the start of our relationship with God, it is natural to think that we really have to exert a lot of effort in order to become the kind of persons God wants us to be. We struggle, of course, because we are not able to produce the kind of transformation that we desire. But, over time, we must learn to surrender and trust God more and more as He transforms us by His power and grace.

Main Idea: “Our transformation is not by our exertion but by God's orchestration.” (“Ang pagbabago natin ay hindi sa pamamagitan ng ating pagsusumikap kundi sa pamamagitan ng pagkilos ng Diyos.”)
Why trust God more and more over time with regard to our transformation?
Four Reasons
1. He is the only One who can truly create order in our lives (vv.1-2).
2. He is the only One who can truly make us holy (vv.3-4).
3. He is the only One who can truly give us righteousness (vv.5-6).
4. He is the only One who can truly give us victory (vv.7-10).

Praising God in Worship | By Pastor Bong Baylon | RLCC
1 I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. 2 I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High. (Psalm 9:1-2)
When something becomes familiar to us, it can easily become meaningless. We go into a routine that sometimes becomes shallow. This is especially true when it comes to our worship of God. Since we do it every Sunday, the act of worship can easily become just a weekly routine. Others simply disregard the time for praising God as unimportant in worship. They just want to listen to the sermon instead. Consequently, they miss out something very important in their relationship with God. They remain shallow. We need to learn how to deepen our relationship with God through praising Him in worship.
