Jake Yocom-Piatt, Project Lead for Decred, will be joining us to present an introduction to Decred and its governance systems. Decred has been built to address the current governance problems experienced by Bitcoin. It is an open and progressive cryptocurrency with a system of community-based governance integrated into its blockchain. Decred aims to disintermediate its own internal political decisions, effectively disintermediating central banking. Jake has been using, funding and directing the creation of open source software for over 10 years. He funded and oversaw the creation of btcsuite, an alternative full node Bitcoin implementation written in go, whose source code has been used in several other notable projects, e.g. Lightning Network Daemon (lnd), Ethereum, Factom.
