Once you have decided on your distribution, downloaded it, and validated the iso, you are ready to create a live key to boot your computer into Linux.
This video looks specifically at Mac and Linux, but the Windows live key creation is the same as Mac in this case. We used UNetbootin for our key creation on Mac and Windows. You can download the program here:

For the Linux key creation I use the built in USB writer program preinstalled on Linux Mint.
Note that without special software, this key cannot be used to boot a Mac computer, only a PC.
